I've had a CRT ever since I had a computer (when Red Alert 2 was a new release), so it's been sometime. I just got a View Sonic 19" LCD for $169 after rebates from Office Depot. There is 1 dead pixel, but you can barely see it because of my wallpaper. The monitor is great, but it seems weird. Deception from the switch?

Some companies won't warranty against less than a certain number of pixel being out. It sucks but after time you'll stop noticing it.

Yes, usually if you have more then 5 they will take it back. Dead pixels haven't been bad for me, my PSP has one and my 19" Acer LCD doesn't have any. Check your video card setting and enable clear type for your LCD.

Sucks to hear you got a dead pixel. I actually got lucky and have a perfect screen. With only one dead pixel, you probably won't be able to get a switch since most companies or stores require at least 5 dead or so. Some even need the dead pixels in the middle of the monitor. Good luck and enjoy.

LCDs still are much more crisp. I hear that massaging your monitor in the back can fix these.....

Thats for stuck pixels like blue green red not for fixing dead pixels. its not a given masaaging will fix a stuck pixel but for me it did work.

I was amazed at the image quality when I got my first LCD. I had used a laptop before, and it had a good LCD but it was a little dim. This one I have now (Samsung 713n) can light up the entire room.

do you have the LCD hooked up via DVI or analog? DVI is much better quality. I know that when I had my viewsonic connected via analog on an older graphics card it looked kind of "blah" but on DVI it is great.

BTW mine has no dead pixels (yay!). My friend's viewsonic has a dark blue stuck pixel but isn't easy to see so it doesn't bother him.

The difference in picture quality from VGA and DVI is less on newer monitors, i've an old Hitachi 17" that cost me a cool £400 back in the day, and it's horrible on VGA, but my newer 940B it is hard to tell the difference.

If you got it from office depot it should be reasonably easy to exchange if the pixel is bugging you.

When I switched from CRT to LCD, everything looked weird for a while too. Especially text. But I got used to it (after turning nearly all of the settings [brightness, etc] to 1/2). Give it some time, and see how you adjust to it..

Easy on the eyes is why I use lcds. Hours on my CRTs really stunted my eyebrows.

It depends on what suits you. Some still find CRTs better for certain uses. Since I use both, each fills a certain niche in my computer work.

I've adapted to the new hardware changes and the lcd is necessary. You'll find the changeover very acceptable in time too.

I dunno. If I encountered a dead pixel I'd return the monitor. I've owned four LCDs and never once have I had the unlucky experience of having dead pixels. That would piss me off and the monitor would be either returned for a refund and or a replacement that had NO dead pixels.
