I've given it the board's max of 1.710v and it stays at 50
but unfortunately my APAW won't go stable much over 2.7 no matter the voltage

my cpu temps are the same as your's

my case temps are high in the 39-41c range due to my vid card and ram. damn my power hungry components

i agree, my APAW can boot into windows at 2808mhz but it fails OCCT and prime everytime no matter what voltage i put.

at least its good to know there's a fellow APAWer on anandtech. i mostly see this stepping over on xtremesystems.

DUDE..clock gen it....no problems ever..see my sig and post and last page by me.
End your frustration now and get clockgen

Hi Guys. I am a newbie to OCing. I would like to know where should I begin in overclocking exactly. I've overclocked before but my old motherboard didn't have that many fine tuning options like this one. Quite don't understand most of the settings. Have looked into many forums but many guides. Some help would be appreciated. My specs are below...

AMD Athlon 64 3800+ X2
MSI Neo4-F Socket 949 Nforce4 (Bios V1.9)
1GB Corsair XMS DDR400 2-3-3-6
MSI 6600GT 128MB PCI-E
Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS
Ultra X-Connect 500W Modd Power Supply
1 Maxtor 300GB 16BM Sata
1 Western Digital 200GB Sata
1 WD 80GB SE External USB 2.0
1 NEC-3520AW V2.03 DVD Writer
1 Lite-On LTR-52246S
ASPIRE X-Dreamer ATX Blue Alum
Windows XP Pro SP2

Oh I wish there were no probs with it!

I decieded to use clockgen because of the stupid RAM 133 divider issue ,whilst it works most of the time in windows via the GUI ,if I try get it to startup with windows in ghost mode it either locks the PC or it BSOD ,usually but not always with something like 'driver or IRQ not less or equal'.
Before you say I've overclocked the CPU too far ,when I overclocked the Opteron 146 to 2.85GHz on def vcoreD) via clockgens GUI it passed 17hrs of Prime95!
Also bearing in mind that the RAM is not overclocked ,& the timings are to man's spec ,HTT multix3 ,133 RAM divider.Vdimm 2.65v (slightly above spec).

Any ideas why it does that?

*****************************************************************

Is the 1.6 bios still the one to use?
I could use the 140 divider instead of the 133 ,would be handy as the RAM would be upto its spec'ed speed then.

Which one(s) had a working 133 divider?
Isn't there a bios which has working 133 div & still has the 140 & 150 settings?
Btw this rig has bios rev 1.B atm

TIA & happy new year

Oops sorry for that post.

Anyways I just bought a new stick of 1gb ram, PC3200 400mhz. I put it in beside my two sticks of 512 dual channel, but now everything is running in single channel! Can I get the 512 to run in dual channel? Do I need to?

Not sure if you can or not ,I know on old Nfrc2 rigs you could ,you got to keep each channel balanced in memory quantity.e.g. my old nfrc2 rig has 2x256 on 1 channel & 1x512 in the other ,giving me dual channel.
On S939 mbrds the average performance boost from DC RAM is 5-10% depending upon program,so you want to keep DC really.

Booted to windows just fine and went to clockgen w/ prime95 running. Will not go higher than 220 w/o freezing! I get a worse OC the farther I put down the mem divider! Im about ready to give up.

Just out of interest...what kind of PS are you running?

Just as a side note, I just switched to 1.75 mod bios and even though I lost most of the really usefull dividers, the system is now stable with a Winnie 3200 @ 250 with the 10 multi.

Going to slap in my Opty 146 tonight and take this beast up to 3Ghz...if I can hit that on my old Neo 2, I should be able to do the same on this board...just wished it booted faster.

I recently upgraded to a Ultra X-Connect 500w. Love the UV cables but it only helped my overclock a tiny bit. I'm wondering if my nf4 chip is overheating...

Does anyone think investing in a new HSF for my chipset might help out?

No ,my mates NF4 did 285MHz with the std HSF.

What case cooling have you got? (I can't remember if you said)
What vcore did you try?
Did you lock the PCI-E bus?
Did you lower the HTT divider as well as the RAM divider?

I have one 120mm exhaust and 2 80mm intakes, not including the 2 80mm in my PS. I have more than adaquate cooling my CPU never gets over like 43C even under Prime95. I've tried vcores from 1.45 to 1.6, is this enough or no? PCI-E bus is locked @ 100 Mhz and HTT divider 3x and like I stated before when I lower my RAM divider my FSB max goes down not up like it should.

ok

Is the FSB problem still there if you lower your CPU multiplier so the CPU is at or below def MHz?
Have you tried the 1.6 or 1.9 bios?

Good to hear

Now seeing as Cobalts gone AWOL ,can you tell us if the 1.9 bios has the 140 & 150 settings too? (& do they work?)

TIA
