I've been having trouble with getting the plextor 716SA working with the K8N Neo4 Platinum MB. I basically could not burn any dvd/cds.
The first thing I read was to change the device transfer mode to PIO. This did allow me to start burning dvds, but the performance was really poor... so, I searched for more info. I found some posts regarding poor performance with the 716SA, and it claimed that I shouldn't use PIO mode, but to change it to DMA. Obviously that wouldn't work for me.
After more searching, I finally found some posts mentioning that you need to use the Silicon controller instead of the NVidea ones. One site claimed something to the effect of changing the controller to the Silicon Image one once you boot up in XP... didn't make much sense. The other site claimed that I need to plug in the SATA connection to SATA 5 which is the Silicon controller.
So, I'm confused... can anyone tell me a definitive way to get the 716SA working with the K8N Neo4 MB (without having me get a PCI SATA card).
Thanks.
