At the time, just 1 VM with 512MB allocated.

I tried to reproduce the issue and was unable to, though I come from a fresh reboot. I'll keep trying to reproduce it and see if it was maybe the overclock.

It's a problem with 32-bit systems in general. There's only 4G of VM to go around so it has to split it up between the kernel and userland. By default that split is 2G/2G. You can change it to 3G/1G but you'd have to set your process LargeAddressAware to actually get 3G of VM.

A 32-bit application can use up to 4GB of RAM if it is largeaddressaware, but I don't know how to enable that for this app.

It's only 3G and it's VM, not physical memory.

Your both right. Its 3G on a 32bit OS and 4G on 64.

Ok it came back today. In middle of coding, have an XP VM running in the background (using maybe 512MB of ram) notepad++ and the actual app I'm coding. In total I was using maybe 1GB/3.5.

At random I get a serries of errors while in the middle of typing so my keys hit OK before I could read, but one error remained and it said "God Damn error: 666" (no joke, I took a picture, because ms paint would not even load so I can do print screen). The error was from notepad++ as when I closed it, the the app closed.

WTF is going on? Why isin't all my ram being used? I tested it it's good. I have no viruses or anything of that sort.

I did notice svchost uses up like 600MB of ram, and I closed it and the issues went away. The new svchost is only using 27MB right now. Now that app is not really suppose to be closed or disabled so that's obviously not the solution.

Based on your posting history, while your likely to be right, you really have no way of knowing that.

As was mentioned in the thread. svchost is really a hosting process. Get it's PID and see what services are loaded into that PID. Close those services one by one until you see which one is responsible for the largest memory drop after it terminates.

Process explorer does not work, as if it even opens, the dialog boxes are all blank. In fact sometimes even the task manager wont work and just come up as a blank dialog.

It's like if I'm running out of GDI resources or something, but is that even something that exists in XP? I think that's just a win98 thing... I remember it used to be an issue.

Reboot always seems to fix this issue then it only resurfaces weeks or even months later. I should probably just reboot more often, Windows is not made to run for as long as I make it run without a reboot.

Its still an issue in XP, but greatly expanded (but not inexaustable). Further improved in Vista. You could have an application which is leaking and then getting you into this situation.

That's God Damn "Exception" (also see "God Damned Exception: 999"). Its Notepad++, check in winmain.cpp. Possibly not even related to your primary complaint.

Yes I tried with adware programs, as well as avira, trend housecall, and AVG (I used to run AVG but got sick of the daily reboots and went with avira).

Is there other online scanners I could try?

I am pretty confident I don't have any malware as I tend to keep a close eye on what runs on my system, but there's always that very slight chance something got through, but I doubt it.

I never even realized I could get GDI stats in the task manager, so I'll add that col and check it next time my pc starts acting weird.

Yeah kinda figured it was that. Kinda funny TBH. Probably one of those errors that's never really suppose to happen. I've written errors like that before.

I wouldn't go for an online scanning, you never know what happens to your data.
If these programs did not find anything, most likely there is no malware but something that i did in a similar issue was a scan with hijackthis. then i posted the log to a skillful guy for advices. unfortunately he is not active anymore.
