Why not post this in the software forum? That is what you want, isn't it? In addition, people have no life and try to mess around with you in ATOT. Get used to it, or stay in the other forums.....Everybody thinks the worst of everybody....It's that simple.

I chose to get used to it.

It's funny you tell her209 to search on google, yet apparently you can't do a search on google for info on key stroke loggers

So anyone that asks for advice on which digital camera on this forum or can't make one themselves shouldn't use one? The same for TV's cars and all of the other items people ask for advice on? This may have fit better in the software forum but saying that people should not ask for advice here is rediculous.

This forum seems to be spinning downhill rather quickly due to the attitudes of some of the people that thinks it's their private domain. What happened to the good old days when people actually tried to help others out without all of the crap?

Im not talking in general, im talking about this specific instance on this forum. Anyone who has been here over a year knows that this forum dosent toloerate illegal actvity, or even talking about something that can be illegal in some cases, so why bother even posting. If you want to know about spying, then goto a "hacker forum".

Keystroke loggers are just another form of surveillance. The fact that they CAN be used with malicious intent does not make them illegal. Surveillance cameras/hiden cameras are used both to video type unsuspecting bathroom and shower visitors and att he same time to secure a premises (like your safe depost boxes at the bank to name one). Gun control issues aside, they can be percieved to be used as defensive or offensive.

BS. I questioned why people weren't saying anything when something "iffy" was being asked (not that I really cared for the topic either way - I just wanted to know where the line is drawn)... and a member told me to STFU. Why? Because I wasn't supposed to ask for fear of someone (a mod) actually realizing it was "iffy"? There's threads about Kazaa and BitTorrent around here... nobody cares. I sure don't. It's just a few members who really do think they own the place and choose to set the rules or act like they are the law. Let the mods do their job. Forums are for helping people. If you can't do it, at least let's keep a certain level of respect around here, otherwise we're just a bunch of 14 year olds slinging mud.

I tried abckeylogger once, it seemed to work well. I can't remember if it was freeware or shareware though.

Go to Cyberguys and search for "KEYCATCHER"
It's a dongle-like thingy that's supposed to record keystrokes, described as such:
KEYKatcher? is a small hardware device that plugs between your keyboard cable and motherboard and records every keystroke made on the keyboard. Keystrokes are recorded to memory inside the KEYKatcher? as a text file which can be viewed with most any wordprocessor. KeyKatcher with 64K of memory records approximately 32 typed pages of text (also available with 32k of memory). Better than a software-based internet blocker because it is virtually undetectable and records attempted URLs even if they are blocked. Protect your children from the ever-present dangers on the internet.

- Installs in seconds and requires no system resources
- Monitors chatroom, e-mail, internet activity... any keyboard activity at all
- For all PC Operating Systems (Win95/98/NT, Linux and OS2)
- Functions as reliable backup because memory remains intact even when unplugged or during power loss
- Features NETPatrol? search for URLs and e-mail addresses and also customized keyword search
- Comes with PS/2 connector (AT-style connector requires adapter)
Please note this item will not work with a USB keyboard.

Ah, so it's not hard for you to do a google search, just a tad bit difficult for you to test the software and see which works best for you. It's all clear now.

I personally don't have a problem with you wanting such software. It certainly isn't illegal and there can be some legitimate uses of such software. However, the is in fact a software forum and I believe this question would be much better answered there ^_^

Yeah, what a jerk. Coming onto a forum to ask questions and steal our precious time...grrr. I'm just going to have to pull my panties out of the wad they're in and test some software, because asking questions is a horrible thing to do!

That is impossible, we do not condone illegal activities here at anandtech. Or tolerate questions. In fact, we are against discussion as well. It is in that spirit that we do not host forums for people who use our website. Nor do we put ads up on said unexisting forums that are based on the subject matter of the post thread that you re now not looking at since it doens't exist.

And the next time you want to know about how some new piece of hardware works or how stable the drivers for the newst gpu are, just do it yourself. don't ask anyone. And go and and buy the two newest cpu's from amd and intel and see which works best for you. and all beta-testing should be stopped immediately, let the end-uers figure out what works for them.

(this is not a reply to Spyro, rather to others with a highlight of Spyro's post)
