Keyboard malfunction on first boot?

Hello all, I finally got all of my parts, installed them, and booted up my computer. If you are interested in knowing what parts I am using, look in my previous posts; I am using basically the exact same parts. Everything seems fine; the fans work, I get a visual on the monitor, keyboard lights up, DVD drive works, etc. But when I press Del. at startup, the setup doesn't run. Later, after that, I try to press F1 or F2 to go to setup and those don't work either. I am using a USB keyboard (Razer Tarantula), and I heard those might be a problem, but why would the keyboard light up then? I don't have another keyboard handy, I am in college, so I hope I don't have to head back home to get one..

Of course, I do get a message, after the Asus P5Q Pro screen that says "no hard disk detected!" so that may be the problem. I dunno...can anyone help?

How about instead of having us search through your previous posts for your parts, you paste them here? You're the one asking us for help. :|

If you expect us to help you don't have us jump through hoops to do it, make it easy for us to get an overview. It'd also help if you had posted in the correct forum but it seems nobody cares about posting CH threads in GH now.

You're in college, right? This means you are likely surrounded by people who have computers. Borrow a PS/2 keyboard for 5 minutes (or even better a USB -> PS/2 converter) and see if that makes any difference.

Not detecting a hard drive wouldn't impair your ability to load the BIOS and doesn't have anything to do with a keyboard.

Sorry, I was a little lazy.

But, erm, everyone in college has a laptop. I am the only person I have met so far that even has a desktop--and I have a laptop too! So finding a PS/2 keyboard isn't easy. Is that definitely the problem? Why would it not detect the hard disk anyways?

I thought maybe that since this is a first boot/building computers question, it might have gone in GH. Guess I am wrong. Sorry bout that..

It's not big deal. Ask one of the campus computer suite techs if you can borrow a USB-PS/2 adaptor? I know what you mean about everyone having a laptop; I've got a desktop but I use my laptop for most everyday things and I'll bring it in to uni with me. Once you get a different or working keyboard you can start to browse through the BIOS checking settings to see why the hard drive doesn't work, but in the meantime try taking out the CMOS battery to reset the BIOS settings.
