I currently have a Rapid Access keyboard but it does not work in Win2k. Well, the keyboard works, just not the buttons on it that launch my broqwser, spread sheet prog, cd player, etc..
Any suggestions on something similar that works in win2k.?de
I don't know anything about your current keyboard, but I've been using a Fujitsu 4700 (now a 4725) for six years and they're great. They're a lot like those old IBM XT keyboards for their feel and durability. They run about $60CDN.
I used to have on of those Fujitsu keyboards, but have been using a cherry click keyboard for the last 3 yrs G80-3000HFMGB, which I think is way (way) better than the fujitsu (or any other kb I've ever used).
I like my MS Internet Keyboard pro, it has 2 usb ports on it and has all the fancy buttons, but i only use the audio buttons for winamp and sometimes the calculator button.
I just love my Logitech internet keyboard.. it works in win2k and it's a nice keyboard to type on.. my next keyboard (if I never need one!) will be another Logitech.
my mouse is Logitech also.. Mouseman Optical.. Kick ass products!
I loved my Logitech wireless keyboard (until I spilled Coke on it). I now have a Microsoft OEM keyboard I got for free from the computer store I deal with (it has a bunch of internet/computer buttons that I never use). I think it retails for like $15.
The Rapid Access does have a nice touch to it. I agree that running it without the extra software installed is a valid option. I do just that with a Microsoft Internet keyboard here. It also has a decent "touch".
But I'll spoil you to those keyboards if you can do this. Find a PC shop that reclaims old PCs. We have one locally that has old keyboards piled three feet deep! Sort through those for an old IBM, DEC or Tandy keyboard with real mechanical keys. If you can find a usable one, just clean it up and enjoy. These new "toy" keyboards will never do for you again and that's a promise!
Edit: I forgot to mention that you can create keyboard shortcuts for quite a few of the functions that you would be missing. Otherwise, I'd be surprised if the MS Internet Keyboard didn't have proper drivers for it. It's similar to the Rapid Access for about $20.00 on sale.

When I was a n00b to PC's (only knew macs) I bought a Dell. I paid a little extra to for "Dell machanical keyboard" This baby is so sturdy I have hit someone over the head with it and knocked them out. This is a lot like the old kind I remember using in the 386 days at school. It makes a nice click when you type, and it lets me mash it all day with no damage.
I have an IBM rapid access keyboard too, and I love it. It's one of the only keyboards with volume control on it, that I know of. However, I need a good keyboard too and was wondering whether or not to get a USB keyboard. Should I get a USB keyboard or a ps/2 keyboard?
USB mouse is a waste as we all got in a nie little bral over a few weeks ago. Certaintly, USB keyboards are bad. Here is why:
1) Dos support. Not ALL bioses will work in DOS with a USB keyboard. Wanna get in bios to change stuff? Uh oh, better go borrow a keyboard.
2) bandwith: A ps2 port provides much more bandwith they a keyboard could EVER use. There is no valid reason to have a USB keyboard.
BUT if the keyboard is both ps/2 and USB, that would be cool. It would let you use the keyboard if we ever ditch the ps/2 and go to all USB (shudder)
I finally found one of the IBM Model M "clicky" keyboards at a garage sale, and I love it. There's nothing like some tactile response from a keyboard. No annoying windows buttons to get in the way either!
