I have a keyboard that uses MX Cherry Blue switches. I absolutely love the keyboard. Nice, solid feel to the keypress. But I kinda miss something from the IBM keyboard I tried from a friend. I loved how solid the keypresses were. The blues require less force to push down, as I understand it. I would like something a little more hefty.

Do you guys think I should get a Unicomp keyboard? Or should I go with a keyboard with MX Cherry Black switches? As I understand it the blacks need more force to push on than a unicomp which is fine by me ^_^ .. I kinda like the hefty feeling to the keys. Which do you guys prefer?

I can get the Rosewill that has it for $90, and I think the unicomp keyboard hovers near $90 as well so the price is the same.

I have an old IBM keyboard that is so hefty you can use it as a weapon. They dont hardly make keyboards like that any more.

Maybe you should go to one of those technology turn-in days where people are turning in old computers and look for an older keyboard someone may have laying around.

I wonder if my college still has some of the old IBM Mainframe keyboards laying around. These were the kind you see attached to an old Green Screen IBM Monitor. I think they were indestructable.

Haha that's funny because I saw a youtube unicomp keyboard review and the guy stated that you could do some serious hurting if you whacked one of those babes on somebody upside the head.

This might help.

Thanks, I've looked at some mechanical keyboard guides on the web. I just wanted to know some subjective opinions about it.

Good for you, it is nice you know what you like

Why would what anyone else likes matter in the slightest?

I just wanted to know some subjective opinions about it.

Oh ok then... I love the cherry MX red keys on my corsair K90 and haven't seen a single keyboard in production I would swap it with. I have also read peoples responses who hated it and damned it to the depths of hell.

Hope this helped.

Edit.

P.S The peripherals forum is over there ----->

You could also look for an IBM Model F-AT. The good NKRO version is incredibly hard to find, and cost minimum $300 used.

They actually developed the Model M because the Model FAT was too expensive and cost like $200 or something at the time to manufacture.

The Cherry MX Black has a completely difference feel than that Blue/Brown or an old school IBM buckling spring. The Blacks have a smoothly increasing resistance as the key travels down with no distinct break point. A lot of people like them, but I doubt that you will if you are a fan of the buckling spring.

I commented on a Youtube video where a guy reviewed a unicomp keyboard. You're right mfenn, the guy suggested the unicomp over kbs with the cherry black so I guess I will go with them.

I love my IBM M-13 'boards. They're still hidden away for safekeeping though. I'm using some cheapo CompUSA special keyboards that I picked up, but they work fine for what I do.

Think that they're getting better with age, do ya? :awe: What's the point of having nice things if you don't enjoy using them?
