Kickass IE feature

(yes, I just saw this on TechTV's The Screen Savers, but it really does kick ass)


In the address bar, type in the name of a search engine, followed by search terms. Example:

Google Big Ass Furniture

And it will actually go to the search engine and execute that search

The result of typing the above phrase in the address bar:
result

It seems to work with most search engines, yahoo, excite, etc.

yeah, I was in a hurry to try it out, and Big Ass Furniture was the first thing that came to my mind. And no, I don't have a big ass, and I don't need furniture.

When I tried "Google yadda yadda" is just took me to google without performing the search.
But when I tried "Yahoo yadda yadda" it did go to Yahoo and complete the search.


Probably because I never use Yahoo but I use google frequently.

For those who use Navigator:

You can do the same too however results may vary. Some results are from Google and some are from Netscape search.

You have to use at least two words in order to do the search. Most searches have at least two words.

It doesn't work where if you type in yahoo 'subject', yahoo search results will appear for the subject. Instead, you will get a result for Yahoo Inc.

However, if you type google 'subject', the will have results from within google itself.

galeon for linux can do this, and it's very configurable too (you can make your own even to work with any site). also, you can even make it put a little textbox on your toolbar with a "google" icon next to it (for example) so you dont even have to type "google".

If you open up the search bar in IE, and click on Customize, you'll see a whole bunch of options that control this feature.

That site is confusing me. If one of you wants to, you have my permission to submit it under your name, I personally cannot even find IE tips on that site.

It also work for Ebay, and Yahoo.

It might work with other search engines as well, but I don't use them.

Hmm I messed around with some search options but still everytime it just uses an msn search. So If I typed Google Big ass furniture, it will search for those words on msn.
