I was looking at the Whois for Kobalt Tools because someone told me that they were actually made by Snap On and I thought I'd be a sneaky detective type and while I was looking into the matter, I did a Whois and found that the domain for the company is owned by Lowes Home Improvement.

What struck me funny is that Lowes not only owns KobaltTools.com, org and net, but they also own IHateKobalTools, KobaltToolsSuck and KobaltToolsBlow.

Makes me want to run right out and buy "KobaltToolsIsSuck.com".

The tangents we go off on when we're just looking for a chest to put on our roll away tool boxes.

Kobalt is a "division" of snap-on it says it on the packaging, interpret that how you will... I'm not sure how cost effective it would be to make several cast for similar products...

Cast meaning the tool forms? Probably use lower quality materials and less inspections, though...

Actually, I found a website where a Snap-On employee comes right out and says "yeah, they're Snap On tools" but in the same paragraph, he says, "shares very little if any traits with our traditional Snap-on line. They are made in the same plants, but most of the manufacturing tooling is different. They are made by the same UNION skilled machinists useing the same tried and true processes. The designs for these tools are completly different. They use different material and are heat treated differently."

Hmmmm.....

Snap-On or not, I still don't like Kobalt screwdrivers. Snap-On is WAY better at the handle, but I can't go chasing down a Snap-On guy whenever I need a screwdriver, so I use Facom (the company that now owns SK) Ergo-Twist screwdrivers.

On that same page, some one is quoted as saying that "until 1994 or so, Stanley also made Sears Craftsman tools. Sears Craftsman is now made by Danaher Tools. They beat out Stanley on the contract over price."

This simply isn't true. I've seen Craftsman tools made by "whoever", probably depending on who's cheapest! I've seen screwdrivers at Sears made by Facom, hex keys made by Elklind one year and Allen the next... and then Elklind again the next year. If we're just talking about combination wrenches... OK.... Sure.

I'm an information hog.
