i need a new gaming system bad and have made a decision about the mobo - i am going with the KT266a after a few months of trying to understand which board is best and not having much success - i saw an ad for dfi on here and there is a KT266a, the AD70-sc - i am still not sure how this works as far as a company can have its own version of the board? oh well.....it says something about onboard sound - isnt onboard sound NOT the way to go?
i think i have found what i want, EP-8KHA+ EPoX Socket A DDR VIA KT266A - can someone tell me if this is good for gaming, meaning no onboard anything, high speed, will accept XP 1800 or higher.......stuff like that

I can't tell you about the Epox board cause I have the MSI K7T266 Pro2 (KT266a)...as far as gaming goes on the MSI I think it can't be beat (the chipset that is...hehe not the specific manufacturer)

...but about the onboard sound...today's onboard sound is pretty much the same quality as an SBLive! card in my opinion (the MSI board has onboard sound, and I actually bought an SBLive! card, ended up selling it cause I couldn't tell any difference). I think the only reason to buy a sound card if you have onboard sound is for surround sound speaker systems.

Also, I'm thinking that all the KT266a chipset boards are coming with onboard audio...but I might be wrong.

Don't worry about the onboard sound or other features. You can just disable them in the bios and your system will ignore them completely.

All the KT266A boards have onboard audio. The only reason that I don't use it is because every once in a while it will cut out, especially when switching between apps. It also uses the CPU to perform the sound, which shaves off a little performance. It is the same idea as a winmodem. You probably wont notice the difference, but I still suggest to get a sound card. If you get a sound card then it will get rid of a little hassle.
