Hi there,

I haven't heard much about the Kt400 boards for a while now. Anyone have an idea when they will be released, and is anyone waiting for this board like me. Thanks

There is no reason to wait. The KT400 won't gain you anything over a 266A, as the Athlon's fsb data rate is 266MHz.

These people that say don't wait aren't helping you at all. My suggestion is look at the new features that will be incorperated into KT400, the most noteable to me is Serial ATA and USB 2.0 (some KT333 boards already have this, though), and since the bottleneck of most systems is the hard drive, this maybe a very good feature to have. I would hate to think that you buy a motherboard hoping it will be good for a year or two and in a couple months everyone is talking about how serial ATA is the way to go and you have to upgrade to get it.

Serial ATA is another useless feature for the near future. Until the hardware of the drives improves, slapping another interface on it isn't going to help. Did ATA 133 make drives any faster? No. By the time hard drives are fast enough to make serial ATA important, the KT400 will be long obsolete.

jaeger66 is right in saying that performance wise, serial ATA won't give you much more. It's like putting Z-rated tires on a Ford Escort, you still won't go any faster. The one reason that serial ATA interests me is... how big is the cable? Besides that, AGP 8X probably won't make a difference even if you could buy such a card. USB 2.0 is probably the only really useful feature, but isn't that just a southbridge issue?

yup sure is and the ata133 standard's only true benefit is it's support for larger hard drive sizes

Yes, ATA133 by default supports larger than 128GB sizes. What is the only company that makes ATA133 drives? Maxtor. What is the only company that makes ATA drives larger than 128GB? Maxtor.

BTW, the 128GB limitation isn't because of lack of ATA133 support. I'm sure that some BIOSes can be updated to support large hard drives even if the boards lack ATA133.
