Hi.

I'm thinking about buying a new mobo and to be quite honest I don't know if I should go with a KT600 or a NForce 2.
I have 2 mobo of each to choose from:
(NF2)
ASUS A7N8X-X
SOLTEK SL-NV400-64
(KT600)
SOLTEK SL-KT600-R
ASUS A7V600

Prices are more or less the same so it's up to performance/better value/etc...

And I'd like to keep my graphics card (AGP 4x) until I save more money to buy a new one...

Can anyone help me in my decision?
Many thanks.

Thanks McArra.

And between the Soltek and Asus, any suggestion?

This NForce2 is SPP, do you still keep what you said?

Nowadays I have an ASUS A7N8X deluxe 2.0 that works just great. It has lots of features etc. If you can take any NForce 2 400 ultra chipset in you price range it would be the best choice, and then the ASUS A7N8X-X with the Nforce 2 400 chipset. The difference is dual-channel for ultra and single channel for non-ultra chipset.
Here are some benchmarks.

It seems soltek is a nice board, but I rather like ASUS. It's up to you.

Good luck and have fun with your new system!

If you want Nforce 2 performance, don't want or need SATA, firewire, RAID or other "bells and whistles", take a look at the Shuttle AN35N. For about $70 or so, you get a basic board with onboard 5.1 sound and 10/100 LAN, and that overclocks like mad. Am currently running my T-Bred B XP1700 at a little over 2 Ghz (175x11.5). I could go higher on the fsb, but my ram is holding me back. The board was very easy to set up and runs stable, even overclocked. If you have to have Soundstorm and SATA, you need to look elsewhere and bring a load of extra cash. But if you are after a pure performance bargain, the Shuttle AN35N Nforce 2 Ultra 400 may well be the answer.

KT600, No what ever works for you, Now you couldn't run fast enough to give me a NF2 but that is all some people talk about, It is what you have the best luck with

Well, Via had always worked great for me. But when it came time to upgrade the old MSI K7T turbo, I considered a KT400 board, but the consensus was that they really weren't all that much different than the KT333 boards. Since I already had a pair of MSI KT3 Ultra 2's running XP 1700 T-Bred "B"s, I thought I should try something different. when I heard some glowing reports of a barebones Nforce 2 with solid overclocking abilities for under $70, I had to give one a shot. I have not been disappointed with my Shuttle. I still like my KT3 Ultras, they are very stable and push the "B"'s almost as hard as the AN35N, but the Shuttle beats them soundly on pretty much all the benchmarks. If either one of were to fail tomorrow (fingers crossed that they don't!) I would not hesitate to pick up another AN35N or two. For me, they work great. And this is after 6 Via motherboards in a row. All of which I was happy with. I just wanted to see what all the Nforce 2 fuss was about, and now I know. They are easy to configure, stable, and faster than the Via chipsets. And in the case of the Shuttle, (and maybe the Soltek and A-Open boards) cheaper to boot! I am really glad I didn't settle for that Asus A7V8x for $64 from newegg.

NF2, that soltek board seems to perform almost the same as the nforce2 ultra 400 chipset.

For performance, nForce 2 400/400 Ultra. However, the KT600 is stable and has lots of features. The soltek KT600 board is going for around $78 and it gets you 6 channel sound and onboard SATA/SATA RAID. The NF7-S that has the SATA is $111. However, if you don't want SATA and 6 channel audio but want performance, the Shuttle AN35N-Ultra is the way to go. Performance as good as anyother nForce 400 Ultra board but it costs only $72.

I would easily suggest you towards ASUS A7N8X.

SPEED, STABILITY, O/Cability. You name it...

im also trying to decide between the nf7-s and the kt-600rl, they have pretty much the same features and perform about the same, but the kt600 is 33 bucks less.

If you're overclocking, NForce2 hands down. KT600 doesn't lock the AGP\PCI bus speeds, NForce2 does.
