Kt7A athlon XP

ADoes anyone know about Abits KT7A support for AthlonXP's.

I know it isant supported "officially" supported untill rev 1.3.
I have a v1.1, and i rember hearing once that the only problem was that sometimes it wouldent boot and you would have to hit reset, or restart and then it would work. To me that dosent sound like a big deal.

I know i need to go to a new Mobo Eventually but with Athlon XP 1600's on sale for $54 i dont think i should pass it up. The i can jsut get a new board and DDR in the not far future.


Thanks for any help. Also do you think it would be any harm to jsut try it? Im conciderihng buying the processor now even if it wont work.....

Yeah, I've read posts by people who are running XPs on earlier rev. KT7A's and I would personally give it a go It's not alot of money to risk and if you get an AGOIA stepping you can sell it for a slight profit if need be

Only the Rev1.3 of the KT7A will run an AthlonXP. As you know, you can get a 1600XP (1.4GHz) for $53. I bought one TODAY, as a matter of fact. A really nice KT333 board for about $90 (Epox 8K5A2 for example) and 256mb of PC2700 for around $50. So, for about $200 you can more than double your processing power! Just do it. There's so comparison b/t older SDR systems and the newer DDR systems...none at all.

I have a KT7A v1.1, and it wasn't real happy with an XP1800+. I flashed the A9 bios, installed the 1800 and reset the CMOS. Everything boots up fine, but it dies after 5-10 minutes of any significant load, and occasionally after 15-20 minutes of low stress work. Rebooting after it dies results in registry errors.

Went back to my Tbird 1000/133 and all is well. Guess I'll go ahead and get a decent DDR mobo next time I have some cash.

Well I am typing to you at 1668Mhz on my V1.3 (11.5 x 145FSB)

My old V1.1 ran a Duron Morgan no problem at all - similar design to XP I am led to believe?
