ok, i just got a kt7a-raid + 1ghz thunderbird (+fop38) a week agoand decided to test the chip out before i tried to unlock/oc it. everything ran fine, so last night i took it all apart, did the pencil trick, put some arctic silver on and put everything back together.

now when i turn the computer on, all it will do is do 4 long beeps at me, then power off. i looked up the bios beep codes and it says 4 beeps is a "system timer failure" and that the system board needs to be replaced.

seeings how id like to avoid sending the mobo back if possible, are there any tips/suggestions to fix this?

whenever you get something like that, in my experience the best thing you can do is call custumer support. you wouldn't want to do anything to damage the board more, or anything that would void the warrenty.

You might check the CPU to see if it was damaged or not when putting the fan back on. T-Bird cores are rather fragile and even the slightest chip off the edge of the core is CPU death.

did you buy any chanvce slather the CPU face withthe artic silver? irregardless of what you may hear...artic silver is a bit conductive espescially under heat and pressure so POSSIBLY you are shorting something out.... you should only be covering the little CPU core..

ALSO....might be obvious, but be sure your FOP38 is connected to the proper fan header (the one farthest away from the CPU of the two) otherwise it also wont boot up

hmm, i didnt kno about the fan header.. if its in the motherboard manual i must have missed it. ill check when i get home

and yes, i only put the arctic silver over the little core, not the entire chip. i tried spreading it like they show on the arcticsilver homepage with a small razor blade.

thanks for the help, ill let you kno if it worked in a few hours

KT7A-RAID motherboard requires a CPU fan with 3pin adapter connecting to FAN1 header. Otherwise, it will switch off your system
