Do you guys think that a language can be divided into four parts?

1. Auditory comprehension
2. Speaking
3. Reading
4. Writing

I do

Definitely not.

Comprehension. Chinese was my minor in college and trying to understand what was being said in context was the hardest part of the language.

Auditory comprehension is hardest and usually first to be mastered.
Writing (especially writing well) is last to be mastered.

I find that writing usually lags, people don't practice it as much as speaking

Auditory comprehension is hardest and usually first to be mastered.
Writing (especially writing well) is last to be mastered, and the most difficult.

Do you mean that auditory comprehension is the easiest?

In your opinion, was your writing better than your comprehension? This is really interesting!

As it was my minor and not major, I'm not fluent in it so neither is extremely well. However I can write it better than I can comprehend. The main issue with my experience is that it's Chinese so there is a considerable amount that is lost in translation.

I do agree that Comprehension is the hardest but first to be mastered in a language as you can't really do any of the others if you don't know what it is.
