laptop dead wont turn on

i've got a compaq presario 12XL203 that will not turn on at all it was working fine one day and the next it would not turn on it does absolutley nothing at all.
i have tried it with the battery in and out in conjunction with the mains supply but nothing at all no lights no fans spinning nothing .
what i have noticed is that when i connect the mains supply to the laptop there is a small arc of power across the connector and the green light on the mains supply goes dull and starts flickering.
i have searched countless forums for an answer to this problem but found no answers i think it is a common problem because in one forum i found about 8 posts with about the same problem but no answers.
the machine is out of warranty and i do not want to pay someone to fix it if i can do it myself.
if anyone can provide any information on this problem it would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Not having experience with that model this is just a generalization; as long as it is only just a power connection/jack problem a skilled technician should be able to "jury rig" something includng wiring in an external short cable and jack if the mainboard (mb) fault is too weak for a dependable repair. It may not look pretty that's all. Of course the mb sale is lost and it takes a bit of work to do this.
