Laptop Mod - Possible?

I'm thinking of doing a few things to my Dell Inspiron 8100. First of all, I would like to vinyl-dye it some color (haven't decided yet). I think it would be nice. I don't know if this is possible or what work it entails. I read up on the way this Inspiron is put together via support.dell.com and found out it isn't so hard to get the 'shell' separated. Second, this may sound crazy but I would like to put a window as the bottom of my case. Tell me what you think. Is it possible?

You probably need to find something that will color your material without damaging it. Meaning, no certain kinds of spray paint. Ask a paint store on which type of dye or paint used to color that material that the shell is made of.

About the plexi window, it is possible as well. Make sure it fits though.

What exactly is there to see on the bottom of your laptop?

Maybe you should have a cold cathode shine up through the keyboard. That'd be sweet!

I am thinking of painting my laptop. The top is titanium and the rest is plastic. Anyone know what is best to use?

You do know that what you are about to do will void the warranty, right? Do you really want to risk such an expensive machine for the thrill of a little light shining from inside the laptop, or whatever mod you want?..

Nestico, was the screen the only thing that was damaged? You can get a replacement off eBay for a lot cheaper than the manufacturer would charge.

The mod I made to my laptop was to cut a hole in a metal shield inside to add a small blower.

that would be sweet, light mod the keyboard.....a window would only show the bottom of your mobo, right?

Use Neon wire or EL Cable or something for hte keyboard, that'd be nice...o ya..the inverter would be big =(...nm! haha.


USe led's! i dunno if hte window mod would look good...i mean there's not much to show in a laptop. Maybe hte label of Moddin Gawd? hehe..
