Laptop Power Adapter Plug Acting up

recently i have been having problems with the plug where the AC adapter plug into the back of the computer. the plug clicks in fine. but it will not make good contact with the inside or something, i have to wiggle it a bit to get it to actually start charging once it is plugged in.

also, you can hear a slight squeeling sound from the computer, and the plug where it goes into the computer gets really hot when charging

at first i thought it was the ac adapter b/c that was getting really hot and making humming noises. i replaced that, but i still have the same preblems

i am going to talk to acer tommorow to see if they will fix under warranty, it has been acting up for a month but has recently gotten worse

Sounds very similar to my wife's HP about 6 months ago. It got to the point where
plugging it in wouldn't charge the batteries any more, let alone run very well off the
wall. Our solution? She started using the desktop and I carved up the laptop for
pieces to sell on eBay. I didn't even want to see what I would be charged to replace
that component (out of warrenty).

I've had that repaired under warranty twice on my IBM. Usually starts when I trip over the cord.

That's a very common cause of the problem. That connector can last for years unless something yanks it laterally. Then the probs start.

Basically, the internal connector probably needs to be replaced. Anything on a laptop is $$$$. That's why sometimes, cannibalization and selling of parts is cost effective leading to a new laptop.

If you have an extended warranty, you're golden.

yeah the cable has seen some trips and pulls... it is a laptop and i use it all the time on the go.

no extended warranty, might give them a call to see if i can buy an extended warranty, then send her in for repair a few wks later

the DC jack needed to be replaced, got it fixed for $150 parts/labor at a local shop; which i guess is not too bad

That is a fair deal. There are others on this forum that need to consider that.
