Laptop sugestions?

My wife needs/wants a new laptop. she wants it light (around 6 lbs) fast and maby with(maby) a graphics card. she wants a known name brand from a popular well know place ( no newegg,pc club,ect,ect) *women*
at a good price.

she doesnt need a large hd 30 - 40 gb is plenty, doesnt need any burners.

its mostly for school, and the web, and maby causual gaming.

she wants new, not used or refurbished.

any ideas?

almost forgot, it might also be replacing her desktop as well. still not sure on that.

My idea is to slap your wife a couple of times. Or start a political party to get rid of silly women? Get a sony vaio, thats a brand name for ya, light and should be plenty fast and can be bought in most known electronical appliance stores.

There really are many options here. Right now, I would look at HP, Toshiba, and Sony. Take her to your nearest Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples, etc., and look them over. There are very often excellent sales offerings, and she can touch and feel. Also, if a problem develops, a local solution is available.

And, lastly, . . . I would move this thread to the SFF/Laptop Forum. At least check there - many have asked the same questions.

And above all, I would bypass anything from Dell these days. Their quality control currently sucks and their support is crummy. The company is in serious financial trouble.

I would go with any Dell Vostro line that is not the 1000 model.

I'm seconding the Dell suggestion, but I suggest you get a Dell Latitude D620, D820, or ATG out of the Dell Outlet. You can probably get something around $1k that will be more than adequate for her needs.

thanks guys. I've owned at least 8 dells in the past 10 years, and have had no complaints.
yeah, there service is terrible, but I've only called them once in the past decade. I buy them for there quality and prices.

has anyone here had a computer running vista on a gig of mem only? I think I heard its a resource hog and needs at least 2 gigs min, with a suggestion of 4 to run properly.
is that true, and what do you suggest for the lappy?

also, heres a biggy.
cpu for lappy, amd or intel
those dual cores running at 1.8 ghz, are they really at 3.6 ghz because theyre dual core?

Yeah just don't get Avast antivirus for your Vista machine, it works wonders in XP but it has slowed my computers considerably in Vista, Vista is a pretty safe OS and I've been running with no anti-virus for months now but I'm not sure if your wife will be as careful as I am in my browsing and downloading habits.
