Laptop warranty

I am shopping for a new laptop to replace the HP laptop that I have now. The unit worked well just up to and one month past the warranty expiration date. Since then the wifi card died,, hard drive croaked, and now the motherboard is causing problems. My neighbor has 2 HP units both giving him headaches and other people I know who own HP units are having problems all after the warranty expires.
Right now Dell seems to have the best warranty.
Are there any others that can match the Dell warranty for in home service?
I have looked at Toshiba and others and get confused after reading all the warranty options.
What are your thoughts and comments on who has the best warranty??

It is very difficult to answer that question because every OEM has different warranty options. Most all have a standard 1 year warranty.

I have an aged HP dv1000 that is still going as well as when it was new. A lot, IMHO, depends on how you take care of a notebook. I have a newer one that is over 2 years old, and it also runs perfectly like it was new. It is a Lenovo T60.

All in all, I have had 6 laptops since 1996 and have never had to use any warranty on any of them.

I have always upgraded my HDDs regularly. Ergo, they are not part of the OEM warranty. Each drive OEM has its own warranty. I believe Seagate is still 5 years. Never had to use that warranty either.

I'm sure that there are lots of folks with equipment failures that need their warranties, but, I guess maybe I'm just lucky, but I think that proper maintenance and care has a lot to do with lifspan of a notebook.

My sense is that Dell and Lenovo have good warranty options - but after the basic 1 year, they are not free. HP should still be good for the basic year - but lots of threads on this forum suggest otherwise. Home or in site service is never a basic free option.

I would not worry that much about the warranty, particularly on a standard notebook which these days will cost you far less than a grand. With extended warranty options starting at $99 and running up to several hundred dollars, it just doesn't make sense.

In terms of standard warranties, I don't think anyone offers more than a year these days.

If you plan to buy next new laptop try buy in store warranty for 4 or more years I have a Compaq laptop with 5 years warranty from retailer I heard horror stories about HP repair shop I had returned my laptop for repair twice and they fixed very well.
