There is a new rumor going around that prolonged use of a laptop on your lap will eventually make you sterile. I say no, but my friend wants a second opinion.

Heat may potentially make you sterile temporarily. However, the amount of electromagnetic forces interacting with your cells is cause for concern. If the free radicals screw with a mechanism, you could very well go sterile. Pretty much any bodily function can be screwed over if the mechanism is messed with. I personally don't sit with a laptop on my lap because of this. To put it briefly, the electrons have the ability to mutate your cells. That's usually not a good thing - it can lead to cancer and a lot of other problems with cell mechanisms, which is why they think cell phones may cause brain tumors, etc. Electromagnetic forces create free radicals and free radicals = lose. Sit with a large textbook on your lap if you have to do it. You don't want testicular cancer.

Or you could just wear the boxers on this page. Text
I take it the amount of electromagnetic forces from my third gen cell phone (video/camera/color) is insignificant? The phone is in my pocket next to my ballz :light:Originally posted by: SociallyChallenged

I think the main issue here is the effect of the heat on your testicles.
I don't know what tinfoil conspiracy theory site you pulled your information from, but it is utter and total bullcrap. The conspiracy theory that EMI/RFI that is emitted from equipment somehow magically causes cancer has been thoroughly debunked more times then I care to count. I am honestly shocked you would believe something so assanine as this. I guess you avoid MRI whenever possible, since that is hundreds of thousands of times the intensity of any device on the market today, and you must avoid areas with powerlines and electronics, as well eh? How about microwaves? are you afraid of them? Or maybe you cower in fear of riding in a car with an alarm or being in an electronics store? How about an airplane? ride those? And radio signals of all types. Do you live in a cave where they can't penetrate as much? Do you have any idea how many types, frequencies, and the sheer amount of radio waves we are exposed to every single minute nomatter where on earth we are?Originally posted by: SociallyChallenged

It's no rumor, the reason the male genetelia are external to the body is the temperature needed for producing and storing viable sperm is just below the human's homeothermic body temperature. Causing the organ to get to or above body temperature will destroy any stored and being made, and over a long period of exposure to such high heat can cause the 'factory' to break down for a while. Laptops can cause this when in your lap simply because they create heat, and your lap will create a small confined space below it that also has your genetelia in the same confined space, thus heating the organ to above it's proper temperature. It's that simple.Originally posted by: ding5550123

I won't even bother to look up the many places this kind of BS conspiracy theory has been debunked, as people that believe this kind of thing will 99.997% of the time ignore any proof of the opposite and cling to their beliefs, however ill-advised and utterly false they are. People believeing in this kind of BS belong right beside fundamentalist christians and the like.
I personally think that of more concern than electrons and sundry radiation is carcinogens, chemical pollutants, bad diet and lack of exercise when it comes to susceptibility to getting cancer. And, of course, early detection is very important.Originally posted by: SociallyChallenged
Has it been debunked? I try not to set things on top of me that have a signifcantly large battery. Electrons DO get away from that thing, whether anybody likes it or not. If you read into the biological affects of electrons and free radicals, it's not even worth it to take the risk. All it takes is one mutated cell to end your life. I don't think I really like those odds.
Also, I am just doing what I can to not get testicular cancer, whether it's high risk or not I don't quite understand how it's a BS conspiracy theory. Battery = electron flow. The sytem is NOT always a closed one. Electrons get away on other particles, perhaps in the air, and interact with your body. That cell that gets interacted with can undergo deleterious mutations in its DNA, which can hinder your cell's communication with the body/growth regulation/or make you superman if you wanna take the chance .
The milligauss thing obviously proves that the EMFs are very low, so they aren't as extensive as I would've guessed; but cells phones are worse, I'm guessing? *Shrugs* I just don't want cancer since it runs in my family and will try to avoid even small things that can create any possibility of inducing it.
