The largest in game world so far belongs to Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall which is 62,394 mi². By comparison, Morrowind is 6 mi² and Oblivion is 16 mi². Far Cry 2 will be 19 mi²

the last time i played the "planets" were just solid gray balls that you could fly through. they didn't even look big compared to your ship.
the rest was just stars and multicolored gas clouds. while pretty looking, it was boring.
it's had some updates since then so maybe it's different now.
