So anyone buy a lawn mower lately? Our 11+ year old Craftsman apparently has a head gasket problem that is $200+ to fix so we're looking at a new mower. I have no complaints at all with this mower and would gladly buy another Craftsman but thought I'd see if anyone has any recent experience researching these sorts of things.

Looking for a walk behind, self propelled, mulching mower.

A local place by my house has Snappers that start at $500.
Sears has theirs that start in the $275 range.
I know Menards, Home Depot, etc type places also sell them but don't know anything about them.

Thanks.

This year I bought the Expensive Honda, after years of cheaper mowers. Thought a $700 mower was foolish until I used one, now I think it's awesome.

Mowing is half the work it used to be.

Model number is something like HRX217

I definitely believe that you get what you pay for when it comes to lawnmowers. I've had both cheap and expensive ones, and the difference is night and day.

How about you rip it apart and fix it yourself?

How much can a gasket be? Of course it will cost arm and a leg for someone else to do it.....

I bought a Craftsman with Honda Motor about 3 years back and have been very happy with it (got it for $230-250 or so).

Well, I don't know if that's all that's wrong with it. That's just what the repair place told me it was. Have to go pick it up and talk to them about it.

Its no rocket science and gasket can't be more than 10-20 bucks.

I'm also sure there is WEALTH of information out there on the subject for you on the web.

I got one last year and I love mine too.

Buy a Honda if you can afford it and if you can't get a Craftsman with a Honda motor. Its so worth it to have it always start on first crank, sip gas, and run quiet.

Depending on yard size, Id reccomend the 36v black and decker cordless. Had ours since 2010 and its been flawless.

I had one that was 7 or 8 years old, still started up on the very 1st pull even after sitting all winter. I never really took care of it, never changed the oil, air filter or plugs and it just worked. Sadly, it died in a giant kaboom when I hit a nice rock (damn near a brick) the kids decided to leave in the yard for me. It mangled the blade so badly it tore up the deck!!

I went to Lowes and picked up the very same model I had and couldn't be happier. I hope this one lasts as long as the previous.
