LCD for Games

I am toying with the idea of getting myself an LCD. I can often be found going to Lans and lugging the old 19" Iiyama CRT around is a pain. The LCD would probably replace my main monitor freeing that up to move to my 2nd machine. As such it would need to be up to scratch for gaming purposes, not only do i play lots of games i watch lots of movies too.

With the above in mind i have been looking at 19" LCD's (These seem to be the sweet spot as far as cost goes at the moment). The following Spec is what i have been looking at:

16ms responce time or better
1280 x 1024 or better native res
~ £300 - £350 (open to slight adjustment)
DVI Input

The ones i have come up with so far are:

Sharp LL-191AB:
Only thing it doesn't have is DVI input. I have DVI out on my machine and dont really want to trade picture quality for the sake of finding an LCD with DVI on it. I also dont want to get an LCD now and shoot myself in a year or so for not having DVI (should i really be worried about this).

Viewsonic VX912B:
Looks like a possible winner, 12ms responce time and DVI

Anyone have any thoughts on the above 2? do you own one? or have you seen a review about for either of them?

Will an LCD with 16ms or 12ms responce time give me the performance i have been used to with my 19" CRT or should i hold onto my cash?

Also open to other suggestions.

Cheers

From what I've read lately the only downside to the new LCD's gaming wise is if you want to play in a non-native resolution. Crt's still hold the advantage there but nowhere else. Ghosting doesn't seem to be an issue anymore.

Samsung SyncMaster 710t is good for gaming and well within your price range. I personally own one and cannot notice a world of difference between it and my old CRT. Even non-native resolution it doesn't look *that* bad. It has DVI and VGA inputs, source select, brightness presets, and 12ms response time. I'm not sure if you can find it at a UK retailer or not, but here's newegg.

The sony hs94p/hs95p and the viewsonic vp912b are imo the best lcd's for gaming you can get right now. They offer the best resolution for gaming that will allow you to run all games at native resolution with fast framerates as long as you have a decently up to date video card. They have awesome response time (12 ms) and the glass screen gives the colors a vibrance no other lcds have right now. They do reflect more than other lcds because of that glass screen but it's no worse than a crt and not a bother at all unless you have a very bright light source always shining on the display.

Dont suppose you know if there is a UK equivalent of the VP912b, or somewhere i can get hold of it in the UK. As it seems to be a US model and i cant seem to track one down.

I bought the sharp back when it was the only 16ms 19". There are better choices now.

just remember these are "gaming" LCDs if you plan on doing any important photoshop work look elsewhere (as you should be using a CRT in the first place) but for gaming and buisness apps (mostly what i use it for) the 12ms panels are quite good.

Very tempted by the 2001FP looks like quite a nice screen, would also give me a bit of a screen size upgrade from my current (aging) Iiyama vision master pro 450 19", and Dell have it on offer again by the looks of it. Guess I will have to decide before the offer runs out on them. /me starts counting the pennies and calling in all monetary debts

Anyone here with any experience with this monitor? Or know of any good reviews to read (Other than the one at anandtech)?

Cheers
