LCD Monitor HELP

I am interested in getting an LCD monitor. I want a 17" with DVI and analog, but i also want one that can do games well. any suggestion would be greatly appreciated .i want something high quality that is tested to do well, price is not an issue, thanks

Well I don't have a LCD, but like you I'm also shopping for one, this is what I find in my search...

1) DVI input are only avaliable on LCD's 17" or higher, this isn't much a problem excpet price, but....

2) 17"+ LCDs all have native resolutions of 1280x1024, which means you need to have one mean machine to run games at that res. If you go lower like 1024X784, the screen gets grainy, I've seen this on my friend's 17" LCD. It looks sharp at native, but not lower.

IMO, if you're not pushing for space saving conerns, a CRT is still a better choice for gaming.

Look at the NEC/Mitsu 1760NX. Very nice LCD. I have one and a friend of mine does also. We are are both very happy with them. $455 @ Newegg.

Hitachi CML174 series.
17", 16ms responce time. Perfect for games.
Its displays res`s lower than 1280x1024 fine. Obviously the native is very sharp, where as other res`s are around the same as CRT`s quality.

Using non native res looks pretty bad on an LCD in desktop stuff, but is not very noticeable in 3D games. I also looked at the Hitachi, but it is kind of clunky looking, and there is no way to easily switch between the DVI and D-Sub inputs when used as a dual input setup. The NEC can switch with a single button push on the front.

Its very rare to find a TFT that`ll switch inputs with one button press.
Becides, its not exactely hard to switch them anyway on the Hitachi, and how often are you going to change it? With just one button to pres, you could accidently knock it couldnt you?
What exactely do you mean by "Clunky Looking", it looks like most TFTs. And is available in two colours, which is good.

I run my laptop (work) and my home PC on the same LCD. I switch it at least 10 - 20 times during a work day. A single push is a heck of a lot easier than having to go through the OSD to cthe input! No possible way to do it by accident.

thanks for the recomendations, i want an LCD mainly beacuse my eyes get tired when i use my CRT, its older so it doesnt refresh higher than 72ms. the size will be nice as i move my computer every year for school


EDIT: i looked the the NEC i read the LCD guide on the forums and the author said 500:1 contrast ratio was minimum for good grey/black differentian

Be careful of some of those specs. Stated and actual contrast ratio very tremendously. I can tell you that the contrast ratio on the NEC is fine. I am running it @ 50% contrast, 27% brightness. I dont have to come anywhere near maxing out what it has.

Just so you know. Refresh rates are measured in Hz.
