LCD Monitor Question

Hey I recently bought a Westinghouse LCD and was wondering if it's possible to get resolutions that appear too wide on the screen (pictures and text show up stretched) to display correctly by using black lines on the sides maybe? I want to use 1024 x 768, but everything shows up stretched on screen. Is it possible to use black lines on the sides to even out the wide screen of the monitor? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is what your are asking is how to run a 16x9 widescreen lcd in a 4x3 mode? I have a samsung 22 widescreen using nivida based graphics card and I have not been able to find a way to do that in the nvidia control panel,

No, when I use most of the resolutions, such as 1024 x 768, the image becomes stretched (icons, text, images from games all appear fat or wide); is there any way to get black bars on the left and right sisde of the screen vertically to even the picture?

Might be a setting on your actual monitor, you know the button it you push to change color settings etc, look in your manual to see if it's possible.

You could buy some black construcion paper, cut and tape it to the sides.

Seriously. Change the resoluion to something that does not alter the aspect ratio.

But in reality that is what you are really asking. 1024x768 is a native 4:3 image not 16x9 which widescreens are. You want 1024x768 to run at its native 4x3 and not be streched to a 16x9 display.

The weird thing is, if I try other displays that are in wide screen, the image is still stretched.. the only resolutions that seem fine are 1280 x 800 and 1400 x 900.. every other resolution appears stretched, wide screen or not.
