Ok, i've read the how to on picking an lcd provided by anandtech and i still have a few questions. With CRT's i know the refresh rate is truely limiting to the fps, lets say if you have 80khz refresh rate on CRT that means you are only really seeing 80fps. Every lcd i've seen doesn't have 100khz refesh rate, and i'm just wondering if that means i won't truely be seeing 100fps on it if i purchase one with 83khz. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824001064

that's what im thinking about purchasing for gaming.

Good monitor! You should have 60hz (not khz) refresh rate on an LCD. 75hz at max. I know, it will limit FPS, but it's the only way. The highest refresh rate for LCD's it 75hz right now. Response time is more important than refresh rate. 4ms is VERY good.

EDIT: that 81khz vertical refresh rate doesn't have to do with overall refresh rate, it is still 60hz.

You are only limited by your refresh rate if you choose to sync the games frame rate to the refresh rate, otherwise your FPS is unlimited. However if your FPS and your refresh rate are not in sync you are gonna get a lot of screan tearing so you are limited in that respect anyway.

that kind of sucks, i spend 9 hours a day playing too, so i'd probably notice only having 60 fps. Ohwel it might still be worth it for lans, not having to pick up a crt is probablya nice thing.

If you machine truly stays over 60FPS all the time, your eyes can't tell the difference between 80FPS and 60FPS.

LCD's also draw the screen different. So you no longer see scan lines. So I highly doubt you will see it. I know I was worryed about it and I've never noticed. I love my 2001fp

This is true. I read somewhere that the LCD refresh rate is not directly linked to the "frames per second" your graphics card is capable of. It doesn't work like CRT as sourceninja says.

I have a Hyundai L70S running 1280x1024 @ 70 Hertz, 8ms response time, works beautifully.

It's not about seeing the fps, it's about feeling them. After you spend 7 years of your life playing video games you can feel the slightest frame drop even if it's over 60 in your mouse.

No - LCDs do not have refresh rates - they are staring pixels. The thing that counts for gaming is the response time. That means how long it takes for a pixel to light up.

For gaming you want at least 12 ms or faster. Otherwise, mouse movements, etc. leave ghost trails.
