Hey, i know there are alot of threads on LCD's and i've searched and searched but i can't find what i'm looking for.

I'm looking for an LCD with a good response time for gaming..(16ms) i'm looking for at least 17" and i'm looking for it to be DVI AND the most important is that it's less than 400$...

is this even possible? Man i realllllly want that dell 2001 but i just can't drop 700$ on a new display. I have a crappppy viewsonic monitor(19") that i dropped on my hard tile floor of my kitchen and the top right corner has turned this opposite color mode where anything you drag there just goes like BRIGHT green. ANyways i thought i could live with it and i can't...and i really want an lcd...

so my main question is is that possible? or do i really just have to nut up and get the dell 2001.

thanks for any help, sorry if this is been asked 1000 times.

i like the shuttle xp17, and the review somewhere said it was like 295$, but now i keep seeing it for 650...damn!

I just ordered the dell 1703FP ultrasharp for $398 (coupon) or something like that. The website doesnt say what response time it is, but the user guide says 25ms. Anyhow, long story short (or you can read my rantings here) couple of reps assured me the new ones are now 16ms, no longer 25ms (i can return it if its not). These screens are real nice, even the older ones were, just had really great color, features, and viewing angles.

Call dell up, see if they'll tell you the response time, and if they give you the same story they gave me, order one of those

Check out newegg they have a couple of under $400 17" lcd's. Although gotta pay over $400 for a good DVI included model. Non DVi but the samsung 710N is a good one.

dell has sales frequently (which is where i ordered mine), generally on a weekly basis, but sometimes theres daily ones too. gottadeal.com is where i saw the discount on the lcd's, it was all over the net too.

my lcd is supposed to be here today, according to the UPS site anyhow (4 days earlier than what dell estimated, no complaints, hehe). I'll post here if when i know 100% what the response time is, and how well it performs

all i can really say is wow.

the base and the screen are two pieces, and have a screwless assembly, just a quick click and its assembled. the monitor has 4 usb plugs. there are 2 usb on the left side and 2 on the back. the monitor has a spring loaded height adjuster, with 2 fingers you can raise and lower the screen a good 6 inches, and it also rotates to any degree. it also has a very bright, easy to read, and colorful osd, better than my old trinitron for sure.

i didnt bother with the vga cable, and went immediatly to dvi, and wow. the screen is incredibly bright and very sharp. my default settings are 1280x1024 with a 70 hertz refresh. so far ive seen no sign of trailing or ghosting with basic os functions, scrolling in IE, mouse movement etc. i have not tried many games, as I I dont have much installed. I did try ut2004 however, and all i can really do is drool. i'm sure there are a lot of people who can tell the difference between lcd and crt with games, with this monitor, i at least can't. as far as brightness, contrast, and color, its better than my trinitron in its prime, i wont concede that.

dell has impressed me again

edit: couple changes. also the viewing angle on this thing is amazing. its not crt or anything, but even 55 deg off center you can read everything very clearly

Hey Surj,
Do you know what the response time is for that 1703FP? I just got off the phone and the sales rep said it was 25ms. I think that is just because she was looking at the user guide though, and most likely has no clue what a response time is.

Also,
Did you compare that LCD with the Samsung 710N at all? Those are the two displays I have my search narrowed down to so far. I realize the samsung doenst have a DVI, but my vid card doesnt have one either. The Samsung is 12ms though..

Thanks!

I have a Hyundai L70S 17" with a 16ms response time and it's awesome. And it was only $279 at outpost.com (of course it's back up to $400 now).

I have a DVI Samsung 191T as my main LCD, and the 17" for gaming (analog) . I don't notice any difference between the DVI and the analog signal. And if you're gaming, i don't think you will either.

Dell 1703fp is amazing monitor.
I paid 433 Shipped, had to pay for taxes.
Awesome on DVI input.
Zero ghosting, even with 25ms.

I got a Planar Px171m on ebay for 425. Was a Buy It Now price so I'm sure you can get it cheaper.

It's a 17", 16ms response, DVI or VGA, crappy speakers.
