Leadtek 7800GTX problem

I just purchased Leadtek 7800GTX, and I noticed today that default clock on the card is 275MHz instead of 430MHz. I tried using riva tuner, but it only allows me to clock to 415MHz. I tried using Leadtek's own overclocker, but the card defaults back to 275MHz when the software is not loaded.

I ran 3DMark05 and I got ~5800 which does not make sense. Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: I try to run 3DMark05 after overclocking to 430MHz with Leadtek's software but the test freezes about 3 seconds into it, starts again for 2 seconds, and freezes again, so on...

BTW I have A64 4400+ and 1gig of RAM.

Yes the 6 pin is connected. I have Seasonic 400W PS. I don't think PS is the problem, since he is running fine even with OC, which I am not doing.

EDIT2: Ordered Seasonic S12 500W. Did some research and it has inadequate PS written all over it. UPDATE: New PS didn't do anything.

EDIT3: I forgot to mention, the screen is garbled and freezes when I set the card to 430MHz. I know the card defaults to 275Mhz for 2d. But it stays on that speed even in 3d. The card is going back for RMA

is the card getting enough juice? e.g. - is the 6 pin connection on the card plugged in? What kind of power supply?

That's a very weird issue. Assuming it's getting enough power, I'd swap it and get the right one.

How are you looking at the clock speed?

The reason I ask is that when in 2D the card will default to a lower speed, but will go to its normal clock speed when you start a game or other 3D application.

I am thinking perhps my PS is inadequate. Afterall, I am running dual core CPU, a 7800GTX, 2 HDs, and 2 DVD/CD-W drives. I occasionally get BSOD saying videocard is the problem.

The reason I could tell that the card does not go back to normal speed is there is a huge difference in frames when I run 3DMark, before and after "overclocking" to default settings.

According to the calculator, a system similar to yours, but using a 3400+, would suck up just shy of 400W. Anyone know what the wattage requirement of his X2 is?

You certainly may have outrun your powersupply.

Thank you for the help. I just read the preview here and it does consume about 10% more power.

My previous setup, P4 2.66MHz may have consumed more power according to Anand's test but it was with a 9700 Pro, not a 7800GTX which I am sure consumes much more.

Can you take a pic of the screen next time it happens? I had something similar happen to me when I first got my GTX.

I had just finished doing a clean install and had just updated Windows XP with all the latest critical updates. When I rebooted my screen was all garbled up (colored boxes). I went into the BIOS and it went away. It hasn't happened since. I thinks it's been a couple weeks. I assumed it had something to do with all the updates I just did. Anyway, if it doesn't happen again then I'm not going to worry. Also, I have the Antec TP-II 550. My 12V rail is at 11.88V.

BroadbandGamer, ran ito the same thing with my BFG 7800GTX.. Sometimes during a cold boot, it would show garbage, a reset fixes it.

Got a EVGA, will see if it does it (or if it had something to do with the overclock)..

Take a look at the update on my post above. That info was suppose to be posted in your thread about the BFG 7800 GTX and some how it ended up here.

New PS did not work.

The card is bad it seems. If anyone else experiences something like I did, it may be your video card.

In 2d, the clock speed goes down to 275mhz. In 3d, it should go back up to 430. Are you sure your looking at the 3d settings?

Fire up RivaTuner, click on the Power User tab, scroll down to the NVIDIA\Overclocking section and set EnablePerfLevelForcing to 1. Then go into the overclocking portion of RivaTuner and where it says, "force constant performance level" choose 3D. Set your clocks to default and it should be fine.

Yes, and in my original post, I ran 3DMark and it was low
