Leadtek 7950GT -- stupid install question

Hi all,

I feel embrassed but I couldn't find any information about how to power my 7950GT card. Its got a 6pin power connector on the edge of the card and comes with a Y cord adapter to connect to the regular power supply plugs.

Do I plug both end to the power supply or just one?

As you can guess, my system isn't booting up after install. No bios screen, not even a beep from the system. I suspect the motherboard is in play but this is the first graphic card I bought requiring its own power.

This is following spec I have:

asus P5B
E6400 core 2 duo
OCZ 2x1GB
leadtek 7950GT
hitachi 250GB SATA

plug in the 6 pin power plug to the video card, and plug in a 4 pin molex connector to the other connector. you should be good to go.

there's two 4pin molex connector (its a Y cable)

I emailed the guy who wrote this review

and got an answer back:

Actually both of the 4 pin male Molex adapters need to be plugged into a corresponding 4 pin female Molex adapter that come s from the PSU otherwise proper voltage will not be relayed to the card. Unfortunately Leadtek in the US has recently closed its operations but they are honoring all product warranties should this not solve your problem. Hope this helps!

so I take it I'll need to plug in both 4 pin molex instead of just one.

Does your power supply have a 6 pin connector that fits the video card? If so, then that's all you need to do. I have my BFG 7950 connected to my PCP&C power supply that way.

If not, then you have to use the adapter and my understanding is that you do need to connect both of the 4 pin connectors.

I just bought a 8800GTS and it came with one of those y-connectors. I actually used the old 6-pin adapter from my 1800XT that only had 1 4-pin connector and it's fine, though I'm going to switch it back and do it the right way eventually.

If your card came with an adapter with 2 4-pin connectors, then you should probably use both of them. They're trying to make sure the card gets enough power by using both rails in your PSU, assuming you have more than one 12V rail.
