I have been looking for sites that you can "legally" download DVD movies and burn them onto a DVD-R to watch in my DVD player... I have seen a few of these site and I was wondering if anyone has tried them and if they really are legal...

This is one of them that I have been checking out.

I am not trying to find warez or anything like that! I really want to find the truth behind sites like that and to find out if anything legal exists. I want to find a place where I can buy movies and download them legally....

It won't let you make a DVD-R of the movie, however. Digital Rights Management (DRM) is the only way their business model works.

There was one that Disney was making a deal with. You could download the movie (in WMV format I think, but high-quality) and store it on your HD for up to 30 days, after which time it would expire. Also, once you started watching it you had 24 hours to finish watching it before it expired. There was a CNN article about it which I'll try to find.

Is that the one where you can download a movie and keep it for 30days until you watch it, at which point you have 24hrs to watch?

Thanks to those who a offering positive feedback.... No flaming needed!!! Of course I didn't think this was really legal! But many sites like this one have advertised right on their front page 100% legal... How can they advertise this and take money from people if they are running an illegal business!

In Russia, illegal business runs you!

Yeah, welcome to Russia's lack of copyright enforcement.

Thanks for all the feedback! A lot of those sites seem really cool, but who wants to watch a movie on their computer when I can watch it on my 54" HDTV... My PC is in a totally seperate room so that really isn't an option either.

I guess I'll stick with my $1.99 new release rentals at my local Hollywood Video!

I go with 99¢ 1-day Monday rentals from Albertson's. Yes, Albertson's. The grocery store. Same a Kroger in other parts of the country.

Personally I like BlockBuster's $24.99, 2 out at a time plan. I think I'm at 50cents a movie right now
