Lenovo work laptop

How does this config look to everyone? This will be used as a workstation and laptop (obviously) for a structural engineer. The price includes the docking station, a coupon, and the upgraded warranty. We like IBM because I've used them for a long time at work and they seem to be very durable and reliable. Not the cheapest, but I think in this instance you get what you pay for. Any opinions?

lenovo is not like the old ibm you remember. its like going from amazing to just good. they're still good, but not amazing anymore lol

Considering the ThinkPads are milspec semi-rugged, they are indeed as good of not better than the IBM days.

Not a bad price for a W500 with dock, ThinkPad protection, etc.

Don't let nay-says get you down. I've been using Thinkpads for a decade, and I can tell you that the Lenovo models are just making Thinkpads better and better.

With that out of the way, this spec looks good to me. The only thing that looks a little skimpy is the RAM. 3GB isn't -that- much. On the other hand, if you make the leap to more you'll need a 64 bit version of Windows 7.

I'm a little out of the loop when it comes to 32/64 bit OSes. Will all of the software I've got work with the 64 bit version of Windows 7? Thanks for pointing this out. I meant to ask about it in the OP.

If your software runs in Vista, chances are it will run in 7. If you have 16-bit software, it probably will not run in 64 bit 7. If you get 7 Professional or Ultimate, you can set up VM to run XP, and that can resolve some of those problems.

You really should give us a list of the specific software you are concerned about.
