I'm really not sure if this is the right place to post, but I have questions about the computer company Lenovo.

My parents are looking to buy a new computer for their home. They don't want to build one. They asked me to find them a pretty good computer.

I was looking at Lenovo computers, because they don't come with all the unneeded items like TV tuner and so on.

I really don't know much about Lenovo computers, and that is why I'm posting this.

Has anyone bought a computer from them. How good are their computers compared to HP and Dell. I heard they are pretty good computers.

I just need to know if their computers are great in quality.

Thanks, Impulser!

Well, that's not the point of the topic.

Well...in a way it is. You mentioned that lenovo doesn't come with "all the unneeded items like TV tuner and so on."...and puppies merely mentioned that HP and Dell also don't come equipped with those unless they're spec'd that way...

HOWEVER, Lenovo is OK. They're just another run-of-the-mill computer manufacturer. I think they're overpriced when compared to similar computers from Dell or HP, but at least they're not complete junk.

Lenovo is a "marriage" between Legend Holdings in China and IBM’s Personal Computing Division in the United States.
Personally, I wouldn't buy their products over Dell, but Lenovo at least isn't crap, it's more-or-less comparable in quality to HP.

Lenovo shines in laptops. They bought their business from IBM. Their machines are now totally Lenovo. As for quality, they are excellent. I have had several as well as HP. If Lenovo is a 5, HP is about a 3.5. Dell is good as well. There was a period, a few years ago, when their quality suffered.

I think they have excellent products. The Thinkpads are still one of the best laptops IMO. I don't like the shiny screens. I have a T42 and a T60 and am very happy with them although of course they're older but still kicking.

I bought my gf a Thinkcentre desktop that lasted 6 years, never a problem. Also they have one of the best warranties. I've never had any trouble with their customer service.

My lab just bought 6 Thinkcentre PCs (the cheapest one, though we upgraded to the AMD quad CPU). Nice build quality and expandability. I don't think you'll regret going with one of their units.

In my experience, a large number of the machines sold by HP and Dell, at least at places like Sam's Club, do come with those unnecessary items. When I have looked at prebuilt machines that friends are looking at, a lot of machines in and above the $600-700 range come with those things, at least on newegg and at retail.

To OP, I know a lot of people who have had good experiences with Lenovo. My friend's High School labs were all Lenovo machines from the ThinkCentre line, and they were seemingly super solid.

As far as choosing a machine for your family, what are their needs and what is their budget? Really almost any machine you could choose at this point would work just fine for most people's needs such as web browsing and Netflix type stuff. AMD based machines will likely give you better bang for your buck for that kind of light usage, just don't get something with GeForce 6150 graphics, I can't believe they still sell machines with that at Sam's Club.

+1 for Lenovo. I liked IBM's and Lenovo's doing a good job IMO. I currently have three in the house. My wife's, one for the kid, and mine from work. Solid machines, good quality.

I got my wife a Thinkpad EDGE 14". It was on sale for ~$500, bought the 3 year warranty upgrade, add tax and a matching sleeve for $20 and it came in around $650. She's happy with it, I don't touch the thing lol

Their towers are great as well. Lots of businesses use them because of the quality and support.
