Less expensive flat panal

I currently have an old compaq V70 monitor crt made in 1997. im looking to do a major upgrade. I do not want to spend more than $350 on it. I found these two at comp usa

are these decent ones? I see the response time is 16 ms but it is a analog. the second one is DVI but I always stay at 1024 740 so will analog make much difference? I play games, work with text and watch movies. I have 6600gt vid card. any other suggestions are very welcome.

I may get flamed for this suggestion, but try Newegg.com and ZipZoomFly.com. You can get the same items for much cheaper.

If you have to pick between these two, go with the viewsonic. A computer monitor is NOT the place to skimp on money. Especially LCD's. Get the big brand name. Not that LG is horrible.

The LG is actually pretty nice, I've seen a similar one in person, it had good quaility, and a low response time...

There is no need to spend all that money for a 17 inch. Get the 19" ACER AL1914smd for $305 from Newegg.com or get the 17"ACER AL1715b for $219... Or any other monitor from Newegg.... Lots of 19" under $350....

Dells right now are selling w/ free 17inch monitor. What does that mean for you? Great dell monitors for sale at $200. Just a thought.

If you dig around Dell and other sites, you can find really good deals on refurbished monitors. I don't think getting a 19" LCD over a 17" is really a good idea because they are both 1280x1024 anyways. You're not getting an more pixels until you go to a 20" which are usually 1600x1200.

I agree with headbox about the size vs. resolution. A bigger monitor with the same resolution just gives you bigger pixels, so the image isn't as sharp.

Check out the Iiyama monitor in this roundup. It's the cheapest and lightest of their top 10 list, has a good response time, and rated almost as high as the top picks (4 stars compared to 4.5 out of 5).
