Lets Race S@NL!!

My Teammates,

The time has come for me to articulate a proposition that has no doubt fleetingly passed through your consciousnesses as you feed your stats addictions. We have recently come off a race with the once titan Team DSLR and what looked to be a race going to the wire with us not looking favourable at the outset became a flogging that will go down in SETI history.

Our TeAm output is on average about 6000WUs per day now, an almost doubling of the 3000-3500WUs from a mere 6 months previous!! This was no doubt due to the recruiting (and neffing!!) of Recruiting Master Engineer but also due to TeAm commitment to raise individual output and recruit new members wherever we could find them!!

Now, to cut the crap, why not really take a bold, brave and rewarding step and let's take a race to *gasp* SETI@Netherlands!! :Q Yes, they outproduce us (by how much, we can't be too sure) and yes they have 168 more members than us, but what better way to boost our production than to take the challenge up with the TeAm who is a truly titanic rival!!

I suggest that if we do race S@NL, we simplify the statskeeping, so one of our statsmasters could more easily manage the task of doing so. By this, I mean recording the stats at the beginning of the race, then recording ALL WU's, including new members and departed members. This would not only provide a measure of who produces the most, but who is the most effective team overall!!

What do you guys think? Or maybe it's just too late and my brain's playing tricks on me again! hehehe

[Edit] Changed message title to be more obvious!!

Nice idea PieDerro!
I'll try to get our (Cobras & Mine) production a little higher, which should
already close the gap a little

But we have to organise this fast, or they will be only dust at the horizon if
they keep up this warpspeed..

Cygor, that's the kind of enthusiasm we need!!

You're talking of getting your production up even HIGHER than what it is?? :Q:Q:Q That's great news!!

So let's hear from the rest of the TeAm about your position on this little challenge that we might throw at S@NL...

p.s. I'm signing off for the night (It's almost 12:30am here in Sydney, I have uni at 8 in the morning... and it's an hour and a half away!! :Q) Keep the replies coming!

PieDerro, I'm a big fan of your enthusiasm, and I want to see S@NL kicking and screaming one day too.. as I see CyGoR does too

Remember we used the help of our teammates in other projects, and together we demolished DSLR. We really, really need 100 new ACTIVE members... then the French would be no match. So let's get our numbers up! and then we'll dine on Netherland steaks

I cannot speak for my whole team, but personally I like the challenge.

Maybe we could produce a stats page especially for the race (just like our other stats). That would be nice I think.

I hope the rest of my teams feel the same way about this challenge.

It is good for the project and both our teams.
I'll post about it on our forums

It's a nice idea, but I don't think it's terribly wise at this point; a few reasons why:

a) We just finished a SETI MTR, with the possibility of starting another.. let's continue to focus within TA for a while;

b) Related to point "a" - let's not take away from the efforts being put forth by our TA brethren involved in other projects like Folding, ECCp, RC5;

c) What is the logic in challenging a team ahead of us to a race? Isn't the point of our climbing up the Team ladder to out-produce them without letting them know that we're trying to pass them? ;

d) I hesitate to bring this up, but isn't there going to be some "friction" given the history of some of our recent members who have joined us? No offense Cygor & Cobra but wouldn't such a race cause some problems in that area?

Of course, it's an entirely possible that I'm simply full of crap, but I think we need to consider this seriously before issuing such a challenge. I for one am very grateful to our members that switched from other projects to join us[SETI]in the race against DSLR, but I say we should take a bit more of a breather before taking on another such challenge.

I have to agree with Networkman on this. I think this is too soon coming off the DSLR race also. We burned up the forums with recruiting threads and it is still fresh in many people's minds. Towards the end of the race the threads were not nearly as effective as they had been in the beginning. I think this is something that would be great 3-4 months down the road. Maybe after July when we pass the French, the Knights and Team Art Bell.

I agree with Crazee and Networkman. Let's cool our Seti heels for a while and focus on the TeAm as a whole. When we pass the French, the Knights and Team Art Bell in the summer, a race with S@NL will be a whole lot more interesting.

I for one am considering moving a rig or two off Seti and over to some of the other projects, probably F@H or ECCp. So, which one of those projects wants an AMD XP 1600+ added to the mix?

Hey all

We from S@NL welcome a challenge from you

It should be fun and it will make both teams race harder through the rankings.

About Cobra and Cygor that wil not be a problem.
I personally had a problem with cobra but that is no problem between the teams.

I'm in agreement with NWM and Crazee on this also,
alot of members were waiting the conclusion of the MTR to switch over to other
projects. And I don't think any other recruiting threads will result to much at this point.
We burned the forums with the last ones. let's just cool it down for 5-6 months and just
do our own MTR's wich is more rewarding at this point. IMHO.

I'm so much looking forward to this!

This will be the first race S@NL ever does, and it will be a fun one, which...we will off course win!

Anyway...we're not kinda experienced with the whole racing thingie. Could you guys explain to us what the rules are, so we can accept 'm and get going?

Sinister Vibrator, why not move an Athlon XP on to Folding@Home? It's, imho, a very useful project (not that others aren't useful, but F@H does seem to me to have a particularly worthy goal), and it's the one I run on my main system. Of course, you're welcome to join ECCp, too, and your help would be greatly appreciated in either project. Just read up on their homepages (Folding@Home and ECCp-109) and see which one you like better.

I also believe a little breather is in order before such a race against a powerful foe. We need to help some of the other projects first.

I am perplexed with this proposition. The Seti Team I respect most of all is SETI@Netherlands. It would be, to me, like racing my sister (no insult meant, it just that I?d race my brother in a New York minute. Ha LOL).

Networkman makes some really valid points. PieDerro does the same. I?m really torn on which side to take.

I know this: If I was our team?s ?Manager? I would refuse to take on this fight right now because I think my fighter is still too exhausted from his last bout. I would propose that we take on a couple of fights building up to the ?championship? event. There are still other ?contenders? that need to be dealt with before that time comes.

So I guess I?m leaning toward a position where I think it would be fun to race SETI@Netherlands but just not right now.

However, I reserve the right to change my mind.

Word from the Ambassador:

The point of us racing is to take on a team that produces more than us to force us to increase our production. The only teams that produce more than us (now that we have trounced DSLR) are teams that are also ahead of us in the standings. We must race these teams to bring us up to their level if we are ever going to catch them. I believe that a race with S@NL is inevitable and necessary, but that now is not the right time. If we race now we will inevitably flood the other frums with recruiting threads too soon after doing the same only a couple months ago. I believe that if we race S@NL now then we risk alienating ourselves from the site and community that we represent.

I think that right now it would be a better idea for those that aren't obsessed with their SETI stats (excludes me) to help out our other Team Anandtech projects. Now after the battle of our lives is the time to regroup, and reunify a TeAm that was streched to its limits. Now is time to give back to the community before we once again call on their services. For those of you who can't support another project I suggest going to one of the hardware forums and helping someone out or putting in helpful info about a hot deal. Lets show the community that we don't leach off of them but that we also give back and appreciate the help that they can give us. It will pay off when the time comes when we will need to call on them again and will enrich all of our lives in the mean time.

i think its too soon... i think we should only have 2 or 3 races against other teams a year. otherwise we'd exhaust our mining the other forums here really quickly, and the people who don't join us for whatever reason will only grow to resent our constant chant of more more more.

though i know n0cmonkey originally joined to get us to shut up

It seems that many on our team are ready to take you on
Would you please tell your decision on our forum? It's over here
If you want to race us we would like to know the rules that are involved. We can provide a statspage for this race. Just say the word and you're on
