Lexmark 2400 driver

I'm looking for a Lexmark 2400 driver and Lexmark's web page doesn't have it. Do they even support their products??? I know it's a crappy printer, but it's what I have. Thinking about buying a Brother. I used to have the driver disk, but I can't find it. And this OS is Win 7 64 so not even sure if the driver on disk would work. I did download what I thought was the driver on the old computer using Cnet's installer and that crap added adware to the computer I had to remove and the apparent Lexmark driver didn't work.

I looked all over the net for the driver and you have to download driver installers. I don't trust those. I posted this same question I'm a member of in another forum and I might have the driver. Will report back.

Well, the link I got was to the wrong printer. I need the driver for the 2400 all in one unit.

I did try Windows update, but the printer wasn't on. I'll try again. It's a Lexmark 2400 all in one printer with scanner. It's white. Bought it from Walmart circa 2006.

Probably a silly question, but have you looked to see if Windows has the driver built in?

The Lexmark 2400 is not even listed in the Windows 7 hardware compatibility list so I doubt there is a driver out there for it. And I agree with you on those driver installers from third party website, I avoid them at all costs as they are just a way of adding adware and malware to your computer. As a side note if you do intend to replace it, besides Brother, look into the Canon brand, I own two of them and the ink catridges are allot more reasonably priced than other brands.

Lexmark has never done a good job of differentiation their models. The OP asked about a 2400, I assumed he meant an X in front, which would be an inkjet. The model I mentioned was an X2450. Many companies pay the manufacturer to add an additional number or letter to the end of the model name, so that they can keep from having to price match/take returns for models that came from another store. I would not be surprised if this is the situation with the OP's model.

That is interesting Bubbaleone, I wonder what the difference is between that and the one I found. From the same general site, but look very different.

I'd think it may be due to the 2400 series originally being released during the Windows 98/ME era and, as is typical of Lexmark, they continued to update and improve upon the original design rather than creating a new series.

When I googled it, one of the first hits was the S2450 which is the laser version, and yes Lexmark confuses things with their model numbering. In any event the 2400 is a very old printer in the Lexmark line and is not supported in Windows 7. If you recall when Vista first came out hardware compatibility (especially printers) was a serious drawback to that version of windows (a harbinger of things to come with Vista) so it stands to reason printers etc. from the XP era are no longer supported.

I suppose if that doesn't work you can install Windows XP Mode and use it from there, if you version of 7 comes with that option.

Well, the driver worked, except the scanner is flaky and won't scan just print.

After I tried scanning Windows said it would use compatibly mode. I'm using Win7 home premium 64 bit.

I marked all the .exe's to run in Windows compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2 and still the scanner won't work. It scans and then just freezes.
