I've been waiting for this for months, anyone have any idea when or where I can find the 1080P e-ips from LG? My current LCD is starting to fail and I'd like to buy a new one by Win7's release. If it's not available I'm considering one of the top hardcore gaming LCDs from the LCD thread or the HP 2475W. I currently use a 2005FPW, would a lcd like the LG L227WTG-PF be acceptable to someone who's only used S-IPS?
I mainly use my PC for gaming and I've been happy with the 2005FPW, but 0 input lag and lower response rate might be something I'm missing and don't realize yet. But I am slightly repulsed when I see a lot of TN panels for their yellowish tint and I'm not sure I'd like that either.
For me, 1920x1080 would be the perfect resolution, 1680x1050 is a little low and 1920x1200 is a bit high (though not a problem because I only play Source based games). Supposedly the e-ips panels have both the response time and better colors but I'm only aware of the 1680 22" model on the market.

I've used the LG L227 and for games its bar none the best LCD you can get. For desktop use its equally as good. Its probably one of the better TN panels out. From what I've read you wouldn't see that LG 23 inch anytime soon here in the USA.

I like the L227WTG but I've used 1680 resolution since 2004 and though it's about perfect, I wouldn't mind bumping it up to 1920.

If the 23" LG isn't coming this year, it looks like it's between the HP 2475W and the LG 227. Any opinions on these? I think I can deal with the 1680 resolution if there HP isn't all it's cracked up to be. I'd consider the NEC LCD2490WUXi-BK but it's kind of pricey. I can buy it if it's really that great, but I'd like to stay around $500 if possible.

For games I play L4D, TF2, and some King's Bounty.. so nothing too intensive. At the same time I'd like to purchase a new graphics card too, either the 4890 or the new 5000 series. Any suggestions on a screen would be appreciated, especially the models mentioned.

There is only 1 e-ips panel on the market right now and its the Dell 2209WA which I have. I happen to have both the 2209WA and the LG L227. I would forget the NEC that's like twice as much money as any other display. I'd consider the HP or the Dell 2408. The Dell is PVA I believe and its $479 right now. Its 1920x1200 though. The HP is IPS and the Dell is PVA. The difference in price is about $100. I'd go with the Dell myself, only because of Dell's CS and return policy. But if you want a great LCD for graphics, games and just about anything then you might want to get the Dell 2209WA its $206 right now for a IPS panel you can't better that. It is a good all around LCD. Its only 1680x1050 but for me that is the perfect resolution not to big not to small just right....

I agree on 1680.. it is just about right. I've been using it for about 5 years now, and you know how you get the idea you think you want a little bit more? I'm honestly not sure if I'd be any happier with a 1920 display or not. I've occasionally found myself wanting a little bit more desktop room and when I played Eve Online I always wanted to have a bigger display. For me that's the tough decision.
Sounds like the 2209WA is a good one to consider, but do you prefer it over the LG L227 ?

I actually tried a 24 inch 1920x1080 Dell I forgot the model number. But I didn't like it, I thought it was just too big. I found myself turning my head left and right to read and view things. I know that sounds dumb but its the truth. And at first I did prefer my LG over the Dell. But after using the Dell more and more I can tell you that the colors on the Dell are much more accurate then on the LG. Whites look white and blacks look black if you know what I mean. Try the Dell 2209WA you can get it for $206 with the 10% off coupon and if you don't like it Dell will take it back at no charge to you. I too thought bigger was better, but like I said after trying the higher resolution I found that was not the case....

You pretty much confirmed my suspicions, that I won't be happy with anything besides an IPS panel at this point. That narrows it down to the Dell e-IPS and the HP. I've done a virtual measurement of a 24" LCD like the HP and have wondered how I'd see it all without moving my head back and forth to be honest, just as you said.. thanks for the advice and tips. I was really hoping the 23" 1080P e-IPS would be the perfect blend of all these characteristics but if it's not coming soon that sucks.

I can tell you that having hesitated between a 22inch and 24 inch monitor, I'm glad I decided on the 24 inch. It's not too big... Ay first, you think it's really big, and then you get used to it, and then you start to think the next one will be a bit bigger...

There is another noticeable difference between 1680x1050 22-inch and 1980x1200 24 inch: Pixels are much smaller on the 24. The 22 has almost exactly the same pitch as a standard 19-inch 1280x1024 monitor, but eveything is much smaller on the 24.

the 227 is nice and fast but the colors are horrible. it has the wide color gamut making them impossible to correct to.

I work from home and have dual 2408WFPs and at first it felt too big, but now I love them. When I go into work and sit in front of my dual 20" 16:10 monitors I wish for the extra real estate my dual 24's give. Don't get too caught up in the IPS-or-bust thinking, as these PVA monitors are gorgeous, and game just fine.

Depends on what applications you use. And OP, I don't think I've seen anything you've said that makes me think you should rule out PVA panels.

Still no mention of anyone making a monitor with this panel. Maybe they are holding it back so it would not cannibalize their other $400+ IPS panels.

Ah, the Dark Arts of Necromancy...

I don't know if we'll see a 23-inch LG brand IPS display in the States (we never got the 22 or 24-inch LGs either -- did Europe?). I think there's an NEC using a 1920x1080 IPS panel? EA231WMi? I don't see much discussion of this display, but it does seem to be available in the States. I prefer more vertical pixels myself, but the EA231WMi seems reasonably priced. ToastyX reviewed it on Hard|Forum and found the colour uniformity wanting (but this seems to be a general problem with LG.Display IPS panels, especially the current production).

If the new iMacs are anything to go by, I suspect we should be anticipating 21.5 and 27-inch IPS displays in 16:9 soon. I might be interested in a 21.5-inch model as I'd like monitors to move to a finer dot pitch.

Be careful -- the new iMacs have pretty widespread color uniformity issues (just poke around the apple.com and macrumors.com forums), which, I suspect, is a result of the fact that they're based on LG IPS panels. My 27" iMac has a blue-to-yellow gradient from the top left to the bottom right of my screen. I was considering a replacement, but it seems almost every iMac screen has this problem to some extent and since I don't have any dead pixels or other issues, I think I'll leave well-enough alone.

The point is that if you're sensitive to color uniformity, then it seems that, at least right now, LG IPS panels might not be for you.

I know Dell released a revised 2408WFP that should fix the terrible input lag of the first generation. If you decide on that model for gaming make sure you get good response.
Apart from input lag, the colours are great, very nice for graphics/video.

I've ordered a 27-inch iMac (arrives on Tuesday), so we'll see if I can bear the panel uniformity. LG.Display is doing an awful job with panel QA, so it seems all IPS computer monitors are a crapshoot. I've not purchased a 23 or 24-inch IPS display as my primary computer yet, almost 9 months after buying the Dell 2209WA, owing to my anxieties about current IPS panels. I've been wondering for some time now if I should try a PVA panel and see if it might actually be preferable for my needs.

Returning to this thread's ostensible topic, I don't think we'll be seeing any LG-brand IPS monitors in the States soon, but the NEC EA231wmi is available now and seems a respectable choice. I presume it contains the 23-inch LG.Display IPS panel previewed last winter. It's sRGB, more or less, and considerably cheaper than the Dell U2410 or the HP LP2475w -- though one only gets 1080 vertical pixels.
