Really? At UT Austin the difference between a BS and a BA in CS is like a couple of additional math classes, physics, and chemistry I think.

As you said, most corporations want a 4 year degree.
Sure working for someone is great, I guess.
Degree is great, but has a LOT less significance in this industry.
In that 4 years of school, which you are most likely not learning the most current material( and most of the time grossly outdated). So for 4 years you learn old stuff, only to come out 4 years later already behind the major technology 8 years from the start.
Thats a extreme way to look at it, but thats what I think it comes down to.
I see that LadyNinaine, mabey your location in missouri is hurting your husbands ability to get better wages.
In the industry I know, if you show your experience in a resume, present well at the interview and truly school if they ask you to show them. I dont think a degree has a bit difference.
Now say your head to head(completely equal) with another person for a job, and they have a degree, then, you will lose out there.
Go out, learn more then everyone else, and show them that YOU are better then everyone else. Simple, be or be killed in the technology industry.
You dilly dally, you get snipped.

Here's another concern that I forgot to mention yesterday:

- The computer industry changes very rapidly. Do you expect any significant changes to the qualifications of employees? i.e. I may not be at a disadvantage w/o a Comp Sci degree, but this is possibly not the case in 5 years from now?

Seems like you've already got the resume to get an interview and the personality to get a job... go to school to learn what you couldn't learn anywhere else. Otherwise, you're wasting your time and your money.

Just remember what Lady said. When you get older and have other responsibilities, it'll be harder to learn. So if you want to learn ANYTHING at all right now (including your Asian studies), you better learn now. It's the best chance you'll get.

edit: Pass the gravy, please.

Gravy? I don't eat fries. I'm a talented cook.

I cooked some steak on my GFLMFRGM. <-- Guess what that means.

joohang: Oh, I know, I know.

GFLMFRGM stands for George Foreman Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine.

You have to be an awesome chef to use one of those.

Bluga:

A few things on your resume...

You say you're proficient w/ DHTML (which, btw, isn't a programming language, nor is cascading style sheets), but then you say you're just comfortable w/ Javascript? Hmm...

Not bad other than that. I know it might be pedantic to point that out, but most people won't give you the benefit of the doubt, as it suggests you're not clear on them.

[edit]Also, I noticed you put 'fundamental knowledge of Windows DNA....', etc. You might expound on that a bit, as to some it may seem like you're just putting down every acronym you can think of. Give a summary of your experiences...

My $.02, you don't have to take it

Resume looks good. I would suggest that you put down which test you took for your MCP, as it may seem to some that you're trying to hide it. It would be like saying, "Computer Science Degree" without saying which college

Wow, you are an MVP... cool!

tim0thy,

I heard that suggestion many times, and tried to shrink down my resume, but I couldn't.

Thanks for pointing that out, though. I'll try again tonight. I found a web developer position today. woohoo!

Descartes,

Thanks for pointing that out.

My MCP exam was FrontPage 98. I passed that exam 2 years ago. I didn't prepare for it at all, but still managed to pass it. I mean, it would be a shame if a FrontPage MVP (who helps FrontPage users regularly) can't even pass a FrontPage exam, right?

The exam gave a lot of emphasis on business scenarios. It was very interesting. It was not an easy exam at all.

The FrontPage exam is retiring on my birthday of this year (hint hint: June 30 ) so I'm going to take another exam. I have my eyes on the Solutions Architecture exam, since I am already quite familiar with it. I don't think I'm ready for the VB exams yet, and the Architecture exam is probably more appropriate for me than taking an easy one like the Windows 2000 Professional exam. I get a free MCP exam voucher each year (another MVP benefit), so I think I'll use this year's on this exam.

Bluga,

Nice resume.

Here's my 2¢

Same one as Descartes: to me, DHTML includes HTML, CSS, and client-side scripting. And of course, it doesn't quite fall under the category of "programming."

MSN Game Zone rating? Is that a positive thing to show to an employer?

I'm using a crappy work machine right now (P200 + 32MB RAM running NT4 and Netscape 4.x = AAAAAARRRRRGHHH!!! :|). Any ways, on this machine's Word 97, "Achievements" heading is cut off to the first page. I would try to put them all together in the second page.

And this is a personal taste I have: how about indenting and using bullets? Just makes it easier to read.

That's about all I can point out. Good luck with your job hunting too!
