Loosing both shoes usually means death. You're lucky only one went flying.

I've never had a close encounter with lightning, but one of my coworkers was working night shift when one hit the building (telco CO). It hit the GPS antenna and it actually went flying across the street, on fire. :biggrin:

They were replacing cards in all the equipment for a while after that. Good ol Northern Telecom/Nortel stuff is rock solid. I don't think there was too much customer affecting damage to equipment. I was not actually working there when it happened so don't know all the details.

Golfing is actually a dangerous sport. My brother-in-law got struck by lightning on a Golf course, but only needed medical attention after being struck in the head by a golf ball, knocked him out completely cold for an hour.

This happened to me several years ago on a golf course. Running in from a thunderstorm, I holding the clubhouse door as it got hit by lightning (very small course and clubhouse). My left side was tingly for hours afterwards.

You have to be one of the world's unluckiest people.

He's done most of this stuff to himself. Standing outside taking pictures during a heavy electrical storm is yet another example.

So, you must be pretty strong, or have decent muscle tissue to do those acrobatics.

Naturally, this is the part where I tell you that electricity does not give super strength, although the concerted muscle tissue effort can seem as such.

Basically, the only thing that "flew" you from the ground were your own muscles being triggered to contract by an aberration.

As pointed out the amount of kinetic energy (from a thunderclap, etc) required to throw you that distance would definitely leave scars. Not saying your muscles, orchestrated perfectly, couldn't do this, but more to try to squash the movie myth that lightning itself packs the punch to send you flying through the air.

Option B: Is of course that this is all fabricated. It is that double edge internet sword of "why would I make this up" to "if I make up a good enough story, people will pay attention to me!"

LOL, no, just a shitload of thunderstorms in the summer months. I was golfing one afternoon and it started to cloud up, like a moron I let a bigger moron talk me into playing the 2nd nine, we were walking, no cart. Right about hole#11 (the farthest distance to the clubhouse) it started to rumble, oh-oh, time to head back, then I began to smell that smell of ozone or whatever it is when a storm is overhead and the hair on my arm started to raise up, holy fuck!, I got flat to the ground as a lightning bolt (cloud to cloud) cracked directly overhead, then I got up and ran like Forest fucking Gump, I mean running through bushes, not around them, I was terrified more than I had ever been my whole life. I made it back to the clubhouse with just scrapes (the bushes). Lightning hit my Mom's house, knocked out the PCM in her car, fried her TV and blew a football-sized hole where wall outlet was. When she called me and told me about it I thought she was over exaggerating the deal until I got there, sure as fuck the outlet was blown to pieces and a big hole in the drywall, I called an electrician, he replaced 3 breakers that were fried and installed a new outlet for her and I fixed the drywall hole.
