Im sure click&run is like windows based setup style. Whereas on many Linux distros you have to go find a crap load of files etc to get it to work and make sure you have the same kernel etc, unless you can find the RPM. Most major programs like OpenOffice have RPMs but 3rd party stuff and drivers are a PITA.

Is the coupon for the OEM download? I waited for my que spot and then clicked the download and it said I wasnt authorized. Maybe I need to do the OEM? 49.95 doesnt sound like a retail price for this.

I think that happens when you wait too long to click the link. You need to be there when the que says its your turn. The coupon gets you any of the OSs on their page. Full, laptop, trial cd, etc...

I kinda like it. The trial that runs on a CD is very good. For the trial (Lindows Live its called), use the bottom choice of links the que gives you.

Thanks Jim, that was probably it. I didnt have time to download it while sitting at the computer and it was qued when I got home at lunch break and probably had been for hours. I opened my eyes and READ the notes this time and it says you have 6 minutes from your open que time to start download. Thanks again. Ill just have to sit here and wait it out tonite.

I installed the OS. Now what? I have to buy applications for this OS or did some come with it? If so, how do I get to it? New to Linux so not sure what to do next. Please help.

Well, if you waited this long to DL this thing as I have (today), you will find that you pretty much jump right to the top. I went from 10 in line to DL in about 3 minutes.

Apparently you could also have it sent to you on CD for ONLY $10., yeah right. Anyone else try that and find that they will charge you $23.79 for UPS GROUND?!? Up theirs with a hot poker!
. That's discrimination against us schlubs still on 56k modems...
.bh.

Update: Well it seems that if you protest, you will be offered MUCH better shipping terms. ($6.50, $11. something - any more bids) My question is: Why don't they list these options right on the form? Still pretty hinky in my book...

Once you are registered (made the purchase, so to speak), you can come back and download at any time. I got in on the last round and have downloaded OEM, Developers and Live several times since. If you can be patient, once the promotion is over download times improve greatly. Make sure you get a good download of the iso before you burn. My first burn appeared to be good but Lindows refused to identify my video. I ran live with no problems and then tried a new download of Dev. Ed. burned at 8x and voila (thats French for Hot Damn!) it worked like a champ.

I am running a take over install on an old 20 Gig IBM HDD connected to a K7-810LMR motherboard(all in one Amptron, SiS 730 onboard graphics) and a 1.2 Thunderbird cpu. Lindows found everything including my NIC. I am impressed so far. It is just tough learning a new system.

I am going to try to get a DLINK 802.11a pci card to work next. I hear that there is a driver called MADWIFI that will work but have had no luck locating a download on the net. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Ariae,
. Well, I found if you make a fuss they can offer DHL shipping for $6.50, (and apparently other options - was that $11.73 total or just shipping&handling?) but even that is high when you consider you could send a CD by USPS First Class for under $1.
