Lineage II or WoW?

I have been playing Final Fantasy XI for several months now and I'm getting a little tired of it. I need something new. I've heard great things about WoW, don't know much about Lineage II, but the graphics in it look really good. Do you sell items on Lineage II? Like in an auction house? What are the main goals of Lineage II? What all can you do? What about WoW? They both look like really expansive games, just not sure what direction they are geared for, would like some opinions... Thanks.

Could you describe what has made you tired of FFXI, what you liked about it, and what you didn't? I was an FFXI vet coming to WoW. The thing I didn't like about FFXI was at the middle (30+) levels and up, it became extremely difficult to find a group, and it became extremely difficult to get anything accomplished. That was the thing that set me over the edge and made me quit. Other things I didn't like included the extremely rigorous and frustrating system of money making. Every way of making money took about 3-4x the time it took for the items you bought to become obsolete. The final thing I didn't like was the fact that the only way to do solo beyond a certain level was to be a beastmaster, which was fun on occasion but slow and monotonous after a while.

All of those things seem better in WoW. It is currently artificially hard to find a group in WoW, but this is not for the same reasons as FFXI. It's because there just isn't a good mechanism to find groups yet.

However, in WoW there isn't the variety of gameplay modes, which I miss a bit. I really liked the missions and conquest system in FFXI.

Aside from the FFXI problems that WoW has to a much lesser degree, WoW also has a lot of pluses that make it seem like they don't to make it seem like they have more content by making things extremely difficult to do. On the contrary, in many areas they make things extremely simple to do. WoW feels a lot less like "work" to me. The only real drawback of this is that when you have the huge group doing some tough task, it's less rewarding when you get the final reward than in FFXI. But it still is quite rewarding.

I too did not like the fact that it was virtually impossible to solo after a certain point in FFXI. I do like being in parties and the whole team work thing, but there were times when I wanted to go off alone. And I also hated the part about making money. You're right, it was very difficult to do only because most areas of any worth were farmed out, or the AH was swamped with the same items which drove the prices of them down. And it costs a lot to get your crafting skills up. I heard WoW has an auction house, how many items are you allowed to sell at one time? What didn't you like about Lineage II Quixfire?

Do yourself a favour and dont play lineage 2. "Play" is a stretch in that "game."

It basically takes all that's bad about mmos and fires a focused beam of the stuff directly into your soul. Or, in other words, it's very Korean.

Really? Wow..... I was looking at the site and it sounded so good. About raising dragons and laying siege to castles and so forth. Ok, that's basically 2 votes against Lineage II and none against WoW. lol. Also, how customizable are the appearances of the characters? I was messing around with a char generator on this site and I selected Human Warrior, it pulled up this ugly ass blonde haired dude. Can you change faces, hair, hair color, etc. in WoW like you could in FFXI or even Everquest II?

WoWs appearance customizations are nowhere near the level of EQ2. They are on par with FFXI, except that clothing in WoW is much less dramatic in difference than in FFXI. Though ridiculous, I enjoyed things like harnesses in FFXI with its S&M inspiration.

I don't know if there is a limit in auction in WoW. It's not really as big of a deal as it was in FFXI, where space was an absurd premium due to difficult bag expansion quests + paying per character. Also, in WoW, the fees for listing something work differently. You pay a "deposit" and if the item isn't sold, you don't get the deposit back. If the item IS sold, you get the sell price + deposit.

In WoW you will run out of space, but there's a lot more you can do about it.

In Wow there is TONS of soloable content.

Crafting is overall much better than in FFXI. What I miss is being able to master all crafts, and especially, the food system. The food system in WoW is very weak compared to FFXI.

Edit: typos.

L2 sucked ass...
no content... nothing but true gankers.... a grind that would make anyone scream with insanity...
poorly implemented pvp...
everyone is the same char models...
everyone starts as 1 of 4 classes and it branches from there....
warrior/healer/mage/rogue
but the skills are very poorly done

the game itself was not fun to balance out the hard grind.. it was grinding for the sake of grinding...

bad bad bad game

Soloing is much easier in WoW than in FFXI. Another vote for WoW coming from an ex-FFXI player.

Haha, ok. Good. Well that pretty much does it for me as far as Lineage II is concerned. I've heard enough crap on the game to know not to buy it. Looks like I'll be playing WoW this weekend instead. Now to sell my FFXI account.... Also, I know in FFXI you got a Mog House, in Everquest II I think you got a house that people could actually enter and browse around, but in WoW you don't get any of that, correct? Someone mentioned you just get a bank, to which you can add bags of certain sizes to expand it. Right?

Right. The bank is not as useful as a mog house, actually. In terms of storage, I mean. Edit: (and that's because there aren't many cities with banks) There's no equivalent of gardening or furniture either. That reminds me, I quit just when furniture was starting to become useful. I remembly only trivial fishing upgrades and similar. What sort of things did they put into furniture effects?

Ummm, let's see. As far as furniture they had items that would add the element of water, I guess for fishing. I had a few items that did that. Most of the furniture that I bought- bed, chests, cabinets, they added the element of earth which was a Mog House Gardening Enhancement. Then it would say your mog house is aglow with a faint earth energy, simply because most of the furniture I had was earth. Earth and Water were the only two that I had, and saw. Not sure about Fire and Wind. I might have seen Fire, but I don't remember...

Edit- Maybe someone else can clarify more on this than I can? Also, is this not a possible combination? Race- Human Class-Hunter?

That sucks, looked like a promising game. Oh well....

Edit- My brother keeps trying to get me back into playing Planetside with him. He is so stuck on that game. I just don't see it... I guess I am more of an RPG type of person, ya know?

don't play l2. every update makes it more and more unbalanced; the support is lousy, the servers all had problems when i was playing a few months ago, and my brother (who, for some reason won't quit) says theyre still bad. and

well and the game isn't fun.

As critical as I am about the EQ clone genre of MMOs, WoW refined it and glossed it up really well, so you'll find your time best rewarded by playing it.

Or be elitist like me and just lurk the Darkfall Online forums.

If you hear "Hahaha WoW is a n00b game, casual player can max out their level in 3 months" and think "Hmm, that's bad !" then lineage 2 is the game for you.

Another recommendation for WoW from another FFXI player who got tired of the same things that you did. I'm not a hardcore player that goes and maxes out my levels in 3 months, that's just plain silly. Plus there's a TON of expansion waiting to be released upon us that's all tied into the storyline for the game. If you happen to create a character on Bronzebeard we have a guild that's forming on that's server. Send a PM if you're interested.

Sometimes I miss FFXI. It could have been amazing with just a few changes. The things that wore on me the most were:

1. Very difficult time finding an english speaking group at my level (first month of FFXI - 33 thief/15 nin)
2. Mob model/skin repeated to death due to psx texture limitations
3. Extremely few new pieces of equipment
4. All unique items were level 2, dropped off extremely camped timed spawns, and sold for millions

I really, REALLY miss the combat system in FFXI. As well as a lot of the story, the house, auction house, and trade skills.

So ya, I'm playing WoW now. It reminds me a lot more of EQ than FFXI. I'm already in the 'raid environment' which is like right where I left off in EQ. Strath tuesdays and thursdays, scholo wednesdays, ubrs everyday, key up for onyxia, and gear up for molten core.

You can't play as a human hunter. If you want to play as an alliance hunter, I'd go with a Dwarf. If you want to level up in human lands, do the quests in your starting safe area to get to level 5-6, then run to Ironforge. Take the Deeprun Tram to Stormwind (ask a guard if you can't find the tram - they'll flag it on your map). Once you're in stormwind, head out the gate and follow that road to the town of Goldshire. If you stick to the roads, you should have no trouble.

Goldshire is where you can level from 6-8 or so. There's quests all over in the forest there.

Hunter's are pretty fun, once you get to level 10 you can tame a beast (wolves, bears, crabs, raptors, etc) as a combat pet. You also get autoshoot with guns (will keep shooting until the mob gets too close or dies).
