I'm currently taking Differential Equations and we use linear algebra to solve systems of equations when using certain methods for solving differential equations. I think there is a class solely dedicated to some deeper subjects surrounding linear algebra that deals with vectors and what not. From what I've been exposed to, its pretty simple, but tedious, stuff.

It's all about the matrices. I found it to be quite easy, but I'm good at math, so your mileage may vary.

Pretty much. It deals with matrices and vectors and whatnot

I always remember classifying linear as a class that made very little sense, but gave you lots of useful tools for solving problems later on.

Probably mostly vector math, eigen stuff, solving matrices using various methods. You may or may not do over-determined systems. Just be happy you won't be doing things like spline interpolation.

It's the art of using matrix algebra to solve multiple diff eq's at a time.

Edit: So I guess the time to reintroduce matrices is a couple of years after I completely forgot how to do anything with them...of course lol

yup...Algebra in the title is very misleading. That class whipped me hard. It should be named "Linear length is very big so just bend over and take it". I am so happy that stuff is not in my field...although I want to get into robotics....so I am pretty much screwed.

I'm taking that this fall as an advanced elective to finish my math minor.

I'm hoping that it will be useful to know for future programming projects.

It seems pretty much liek it should be easier than hell.. but however there is insane amounts of rules and theory which fucking blows. The math isn't anything more than simple alegra..but it involves matrices which can get complicated...and sometimes deals with dif. eq..although no dif. eq type math is involved. All in all I would say it isn't an "easy" class, but its not really hard as long as you understand the theory behind things...

it's very useful if you need to transpose thign in 3-d. Learn it, use, love it.
