At my work study in the IT dept of school we're setting up a new website. We've moved all the files from the old website over to the new site and now I'm looking for a tool that will search the new site for a specific domain. basically we want to have the old site and new site up concurrently with the old being a www.school.com and the new as a www2.school.com. Even though they have exactly the same information we want to give the students and faculty a year to transition from the new layout. So I gotta search the www2 site and change all references to the old site. I've been doing it manually so far but it's taking forever. Can anyone recommend an app that'll at least point me to the pages with the incorrect links?

Well, the proper thing would have been to not hardcode the urls in the first place. I hope you're removing the domain part of the urls as you fix them.

I don't have any suggestions for automating it (although I'm sure there's plenty of stuff) but, using Firefox, if you look at the "Link" tab of the page info dialogue you'll get a list of links in that page which should be easy to scan for violations. Of course, that'd only really work if you have a limited number of pages to scan.

download a trial version of dreamweaver, with that you can do a site-wide search and replace in the source code. you can also do a link check to make sure there are no broken links.
