Linksys Wireless Router Download Issue

Hey. I recently purchased a new laptop and have hooked up my two pcs with a wireless router (Linksys). My internet and email connections work normally, but I am having some issues with downloading larger files. Basically what happens is that the progress meter stops increasing after a certain point and the speed readings stop updating. While the download sits in this "paused" mode, I can still access the internet and email regularly. I gave Linksys a call and the rep told me to do the following,

1. In the properties section of my TCP/IP settings change the IP adress from automatic to manual and input the IP address assigned to the computer. Also he told me to input a subnet mask and a defualt gateway value.
2. Change the DNS server settings to 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3
3. Change the DMZ setting in my router settings screen to the IP adress except replace the last number .10 to .101

Unfortunately this problem is still recurring. I have hardwired my laptop for comparison and do not have this issue when it is connected right to the cable modem. I also have a desktop that is connected to the router via CAT5 and it has this issue as well.

Thanks for the help,
George

this is a little off topic, but i had the dlink wireless setup on two desktops, and they were right next to the router. my pc was about 5 feet from the router, and i got lag spikes in games. sad eh? it settled down a little, but it still had occasional hiccups. its pretty sad, seeing how its only 5 feet from the friggin router. if i hardwired my pings in games were the normal 25-30 with no hiccups at all. i ended up taking the dlink wireless stuff back. i might try again with linksys, but if i get another problem with it, im not going wireless at all. id rather deal with wires hanging around my house then have a crappy internet connection because of the wireless router.

Thats the strange thing. Im getting great pings in games (DoD mainly) but my downloads freeze after a while. I can't figure out why a download would hang up while the internet connection was still open and strong.
