Linksys WRT54G v2.2 problems

Getting ready to upgrade to G wireless and I've been wavering on which brand. I'm leaning towards the Linksys WRT54G; but in the various "hot deals" forums I monitor, whenever this model router comes up there are several posts that claim that the version 2.2 (the current version on the shelves) is unstable.

Anyone have this specific version of the WRT54G? Do you have problems with it? As we all know, internet rumors often feed off of themselves so I'm wondering if many of the posters who claim the v.2.2 has problems actually have it, or just read others' post and keep recycling.

Anyway.... if anyone has the WRT54G and can provide opinions, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

I have a 2.2. No signs of instability except when I was playing with 3rd party firmwares. But with the Linksys firmwares its like a rock.

Linksys has admitted that the 2.2 has problems and has hopefully rectified the situation with the 3.x series.

I have 4 or 5 2.2's out there, and stable. Both with 3rd party and stock firmwares. I wonder what linksys admitted to? Maybe mine don't have the type of usage that causes problems.

I have a ver.2.2 that has been nothing but trouble. I have instability issues when using hard wired connections to the 4 port switch. The wireless connections all seem to be stabile. I have called Linksys 3 times trying to get some relief on this problem. The best they could tell me was to bring the router back and exchange it. After doing this, I was given another ver.2.2 as a replacement. I still had the same issues. Since reflashing with third party firmware,(sveasoft alchemy 7a) things have been much better. I think the Linksys firmware was the problem. If you can get an earlier version, like a ver.1.1 or 2.0, go with that. Seems these 2.2 versions are junk.

Thanks for the replies... I'm going to go with a Belkin, as there's a current deal running at CC where I can get both the router and the PC card for $15. I was interested in the WRT54G b/c I know there are multiple firmwares which would ensure I can get the features I want, but the $15 deal is too hard to pass up.

Thanks again.
