Can anyone recommend a good Linux media player? I'm running Ubuntu 6.0.6. I installed a few from the package manager, noteably XMMS, Kaffeine, VLC, and amarok, but none of them are quite as good as Winamp. Any others I could try?
WinAMP for Linux was crap and I don't think it's developed any more.
BMP (Beep Media Player) is a slightly better version of XMMS, I've always thought them to be comparable to WinAMP. But it's hard to give advice since you don't specify what you don't like about the players you tried.
XMMS - sound quality doesn't seem to be very high
Kaffeine - annoying interface
VLC - seems more of a video player
amarok - crashes a lot, the autoplaylist is cool but doesn't pick up m4a's automatically (have some of them from my ipod)
