linux newbie, whats good

What free linux distros are best to try out? Im very new to this and dont know what im really doing, so id like something not to difficult.

Knoppix. Boots off the cd so you can try without having to install.

Knoppix is sort of cool since its jsut a CD, its uber easy to use and its actually nice to have to crashrecovery or emergency purposes. But it isn't really a great solution for anything more than demo purposes.

You'd think so. But it doesn't happen (yes, I realize you weren't being entirely serious, but it allows mem to rant). There are several reasons for this:

1. People think their situation is different.
2. People ignore the stickies because they don't apply to them.
3. The thread stickied to the top needs some work. Only 2 distros have a longer description than the work put in originally.
4. postcount++
5. I can't read!
