I got a suggestion for you... there are a few Linux's out there that dont require any paritioning or complicated installs.. they basically install into your exsisting Windows disk.. they might be good for someone like yourself who just wants to take a peek.
Here are my suggestions:
1)
WinLinux is meant to be installed from Within Windows.. you then can boot Linux just like starting a Windows application.

LinuxOne Lite offers almost trivial installation. All that is required is the copying of a single folder from the CD to the C:\ drive under Windows. The time required is under 3 minutes on most computer systems.
No disk partitions required. LinuxOne Lite installs in the same partition in which Windows resides. No lost data, no confusion, and no chance for a disk drive disaster.
Easy to start. Use one of two methods to start LinuxOne Lite. The first method is to double click on Linuxone in the Linuxone folder; the other method is to click on START and RUN, then select linuxone in the Linuxone folder.
Returning to Windows is easy. When ready to resume Windows , simply type 'reboot' at the console command prompt and LinuxOne Lite terminates.
