Linux reinstall problems!!

I forgot my username and password to my linux. Is there a way to fix it without reinstall the system. I'm using lilo for triple boot-up my win98, win2k and Redhat6.0.
If reinstall Linux will fix the problem, how should I do it? Do I need to wipe out the current linux first?
If I want to install a mandrake7.x to replace the existing redhat, do I need to repartition?

I would just reformat the existing Linux partition(s) with the provided "DiskDrake" install utility of Mandrake-Linux. I would study the tutorials first though to familiarize myself with the process. Backup all desired data first.

You do NOT need to reinstall to fix this problem. Look folks, this ain't Windows!

At the LILO prompt type linux single this will boot you into single user mode. You ARE root. So, passwd <username> then change the password for that user. If it's the root passwd you forgot then just type passwd and you will be prompted to enter the new password for user root. Voila! Done.

Reintall. pffft!

I forgot to mention that if it's just a normal user then you can just boot as normal, or stay running, no need to {B]re[/b]boot, then su to root, and do passwd <username> to change that users password. However, if it's the root account then my instructions above will suffice.
